More importantly Jason Pominville is a superior player to him - he's a guy that plays a great two-way game, puts up high point totals, is a leader and has many years ahead of him.
Yeah no kidding he fetched more in a deal.

I should have clarified....I'm talking more about the Jbo trade. Yes his contract is too much and his play hasn't been the best but he's still a top pairing D-man, which is highly coveted.
If our mandate next year is to make playoffs then what was the rush to trade him on Monday? Why not wait till today or the summer?

Same age as Cammallieri, similar season stats and similar career stats.
Wonder if we ate 1 million of Cammy's contract if this would have been a similar return.

The Iggy situation was different. He really only wanted to go to one team so Feaster's hands were tied.

Pominville is a much more valuable property than Bouwmeester. He's a significantly better player with a cap hit almost $2 million lower. It's a silly comparison. Pominville is an excellent 2-way center; Bouwmeester will be the #3 defenseman on a bubble team.
As for not waiting until the summer, who's to say that a first round pick would still be there, especially if Bouwmeester tailed off down the stretch like he did last year? Two months ago you would have been lucky to get anything to unload Bouwmeester's contract. Holding out in the hope you can get a marginally better return is crazy. Take what you can get and feel lucky.

Stats wise they are similar, but Pominville is the better player.

Is Pominville that much better than Derek Roy?
Stats are virtually identical over the last couple years. Roy a year younger but Pominville a little bigger. Both are alright two way players.
|
Stats are not virtually identical over the last couple of years. Roy had 17 goals and 44 points last season while Pominville had 30 goals and 73 points.

Steep price for Pominville IMO.

Crazy return, good for Buffalo
I know the situations arent identical at all but makes you wonder if Feaster had just Held off until today if the potential returns for Bouwmeester and Iginla would have increased.
One will never know

I respect your opinion but I don't think he's head and shoulders more valuable than JBo. We will have to see how well he plays in STL along side Pietreangelo but when I see some of the returns today I really wonder if Feaster pulled the trigger a bit too early especially when it was reported several teams were in on JBo. Feaster stated STL was the best offer but how can it really be when there's 2 days until the trade deadline and common sense tells you that offers usually get better the closer to the deadline.

Of course Pominville got a better return. He is only 30, signed for 1 more season, and his contract only limited the places he wouldn't go to to 8.

You could have walked into any thread and been just as satisfied.
Also, I hear the 2014 edition of the Oxford Dictionary will include "Buffalo trades Pominville to Minnesota" under robbery.
