No one's forgotten. He will go down as one of the best players to put on the Flaming C. It Doesn't mean I'm not upset that he won't honour his contract if traded.

Basically Kiprusoff is not likely going anywhere not because he doesnt necessarily want to, but because he isnt sure he has "it" anymore (and yes family/home issues as well at the moment). In fact it was insinuated by Warrener that Kiprusoff likely turned down an extension from Toronto that would of been "a lot" of money, because he isnt sure he would live up to the level of pay and was concerned he wouldnt earn whatever the compensation was. This is why the retirement thing is so front and center...niot because he doesnt want to play, but because he isnt sure he is able to play at the level he expects of himself moving forward.
Sure sounds like a selfish dick now doesnt he?
|
I donīt think anyone who has followed Kiprusoff and seen what type of person he is would actually think that he is a dick. People who call him selfish here either donīt have a clue or just want to stir the pot.

I have no issue with Kipper making this decision. I don't really care about the lost potential return in a trade.
Much the same as Iggy, I wanted to see Kipper go to a playoff team and show the rest of the league what we already know. He is one of the best goalies and players of the past decade.
Its a damn shame that his career will likely end with baseless criticism and slagging from fans and media. The funny thing is that much like his play on the ice, he doesn't care what other people think and not much bothers him.
If what Rhett is saying is true than he deserves some credit for that.

Why don't you and the others who believe players under contract should be able to make their own rules join us in the real world? Think about what you're saying.
Lets say this summer, or next summer, Sven announces that he wants to play hockey elsewhere ( for family reasons) and he won't report to the Flames.
Can I expect you to post:

Good going Sven. You do what is right for your family. The only idiots that will be mad are the idiots that care more about hockey than your family life.
Go out on your own terms. You deserve that much.

Allowing contracted players to make up their own rules is a recipe for disaster.

Except that they arent "making up their own rules"....those rules exist right now and have firever. If a player doesnt want to report somewhere and retire, they can. Nothing stopping them from that as long as they are OK with not getting paid.

What is dishonourable is announcing 3/4 of the way through a season that you're effectively imposing a NTC that you don't have.

True, but this rumour getting out sabatoged his trade potential. What if any other player in the NHL without a NTC were to say they would rather retire than be traded to the Calgary Flames?

Not making up his own rules but certainly not helping the team in any way that gave him a shot in the league to be what he ended up being. Is there no merit in being thankful to the organization that traded for him, paid him handsomly to the tune of 35+ million dollars over the course of his time in Calgary....
I love Kipper, but i love the team a lot more....maybe it`s considered inscensitive or something by some but i would like a return on the guy. But if what Warrener has apparently said is true i suppose it changes the picture a lot. Probably would`ve been easier for Miika to just come out with it himself prior to all the hooplah that`s now going on.

It's not just about whether he "has it" anymore. It looks like he doesn't believe he has it anymore and simply doesn't want to play anymore.
Send him home. That's where he wants to be.
Great player in his day.

Maybe those that are complaining about Kipper can explain why are the Flames trying to enforce a NRC (No Retirement Clause)!!
IF the Flames wanted a No Retirement Clause, they should have built that into the contract.
