Powerplay Quarterback

Solid pick up now he just needs to get hurt and all will be well for the Nucks moving forward.

I wouldn't say he was the only defensive prospect as there is Corrado in the system as well as McNally, that being said the Canucks prospects are paper thin at all positions.

They also have Benn and Eriksson, who we have nothing to compare with.

To be fair, Roy was traded for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy, so it's not like he had a tonne of value going in.
You could argue that the Canucks gave up more than the Stars did to acquire Roy.

Ughh, this is a great deal for Vancouver. Their center depth is ridiculous with Sedin-Roy-Kesler.
Roy is a guy Chicago should've traded for.

Didn't the Stars turn down a first for Ott last year stating they wanted more?
Bad move in retrospect since that turned into 30 games of Roy, a 2nd, and more mid-tier prospect.

Brian Lawton @brianlawton9 29s I don't see Roy re-signing with @VanCanucks. This one looks like a rental because the rumor is wants 6 per year but even at 5 a no go there!

In a new CBA with a lower salary cap who will be 30 years old and has put up very average numbers the last few seaons.
I get that it depends on the market and whats available, but to me that seems pretty steep.
Who gets a $2M/year raise for putting up average numbers and getting older?

So I guess we can pencil Roy in as the Flames no.1 centre next year then?

Temper expectations for any potential Cammi / Tanguay trades, they can't be worth much more than Roy

Cammalleri prob similar return cause his 7mill contract, but if we can leverage his playoff history and maybe eat some salary or take some back it could increase value.
As for Tanguay I think his contract is fair at 3.5mill. Roy was traded by stars cause he's asking for too much and will only be a rental for Van.

We dont need a #1 centre anymore, we dont have anyone for him to play with.
Now we can play winger/centre musical chairs because the team is supposed to suck.

If anything, this should settle down the naysayers who claim that Feaster should have got more for Iginla and Bouwmeester. It now appears both trades were right about at market value for this trade deadline.
You can argue that the Flames should have been sellers earlier--in fact, I happen to agree. But now that they are, I find the meltdown over what our players are fetching a little hard to understand. This team is in 14th place for a reason: they aren't that good. They have some good pieces, and those will return (and are returning) some value. But the fact is, no team is giving you a first round pick AND a top prospect for anything currently on our roster.
As it stands, the Flames have (no matter what) four first-rounders in the next two drafts. That's not bad--especially since the Morrow and Roy trades are showing that many GMs consider 2013 draft picks highly valuable.

Good pickup by the Nucks given the circumstances. Connauton was a good prospect but he was one of those prospects who was expected to step up and crack the roster this year but ended up ####ing the bed. He has the potential to put it all together but likely a cup of coffee here and a cup of coffee there while playing for several teams.

Great trade for Gillis, Connauton was never going to play for the Canucks with Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler, Garrison and Tanev preety much locked. He is behind Corrado, Sauve and even Andersson on the D prospect depth for the Canucks.
Now a Raymond trade tommorow could be in the works... If Gillis can get Clowe from SJ that would be a huge upgrade on Raymond for playoffs.
Kesler is slated to return in a week so this is like getting 2 top 6 centers on trade deadline.
Also, i have a feeling Raymond and Ballard will be gone tommorow.. MacKenzie said this trade doesnt mean the Canucks are out on the Clowe deal.
