It's because a number of teams will have to cut salary and therefore players could be had for less than they can at a trade deadline. The Flames may have over pay, but a couple on a short term can be useful.

he only looks good now compared to that...he is still not at the 6.68M level I expected, not even close. His offensive numbers are better because the Flames have played loose run and gun.
18 goals in 300 games, what a great offensive dman

I will aslo add that if having a high IQ is how you judge the GM, why was his innitial take on the team so wrong? He even admitted today that he judged the team wrong.
|
So much assumption and false information in that post it's almost borderline silly. You hit the nail on the head Kyuss, even IF (again assumptions) someone does have a high IQ does not mean they will do well at everything they try.
On another note, while Feaster admitting he was wrong is commendable, it is unacceptable in the position he is in.

I remember Brian Sutter getting about as much as possible out of our craptastic team all those years ago. I wonder if he'd like a second crack at doing it all over again?

You have to be kidding? Name one draft pick that has worked out that Darryl made in his time here? The only one that has been productive for the flames in all his tenure as GM was Backlund. He was also responsible for trading away all our picks.
Feaster is bad, but don't wish for Darryl to come back.

Point being that the type of intelligence that people generally equate to schools don´t necessarily make people "smart".

A smart person knows his limitations and how to use the people he has surrounded himself with.

We might as well play 6 forwards every game from now on. Will have the same result and then we can draft No.1 and be successful like the Oilers.

Because Bouwmester sucks?

Stamkos aside, Darryl has drafted roughly equal to Feaster in their GM careers. Neither are good, but not as bad as people here make them out to be. Plus there are other ways to bring in good young players besides the draft
Darryl's eye for talent >>>>> Feaster's
Darryl saw the talent in guys like Kipper, Borque, Glencross, Huselius etc when no other GM did. Feaster doesn't have that ability and he should not build this team

The concept of a 'good hockey trade', is basically extinct. No longer is it who gets the best player wins the trade.
Cap space and draft picks are extreamly valuable assets. Comparable in some cases to good prospects.
Unfortunately for us, we will not know if we as totally screwed, or if Feaster and Co are geniuses for a few years to come.
Everything inbetween is just speculation.

While this is true to some extent, compliance buyouts sour the koolaid Feaster's trying to sell with this one.
