True but with Iginla gone, did the Flames really need to save more cap space and was this the right price to save it at?

Well.. this does it for me. I mean, I won't be able to watch another game because I can't stand the thought of not drinking whenever Kerr said 'Ironman.' My guess is he will still talk about it. I say it's a double drink rule from now on.
I will miss you Jay, you're a good kid and you were a great role model and a good partner, and you have great wheels and you never run out of gas. Hope you continue your streak and get to finally get to the playoffs.

Having that 1st is Hoooooj! 3 first rounders? Hopefully Stempniak can fetch another couple picks.

I just hope one of more of these prospects pans out. We are close to full cupboards, but quality > quantity.

Exactly!!
Unless I missed it, it took a dozen plus pages to mention this.
Jay also has to convince the player leaving to agree to leave. This definatley caps the expected return on both JayBo and Iggy.

It looks like he's also got Mikka's camp opening their ears for the good of the rebuild.

I wasn't blown away by prospects we got back either, but I think we need to judge the Flaming fire sale once completed. There may be a lot more to come folks - looking forward to seeing how we put some of this cap space to use as well between rfa's and ufa's this off season.

from the way people are reacting to this ( and Iginla's) trade tells me they had a totally unrealistic expectations of what returns are for these players and what a rebuild looks like. Flames did not get "fleeced" here by any means. In fact, to see us getting a conditional first has exceeded my expectations.

Seems like Feaster likes picking up small players. I like to see Burke as GM before this year's draft begins. I don't trust Feaster picking the propects. Next thing you know, the Flames will be smaller than the Oilers.
Damn, you got like a dipolar disorder with the Flames management. First with Sutter choosing the big slow useless guys. Now, it's the opposite with the small guys.

Oh yeah because Shero and Armstrong were involved in a bidding war to get our players. I mean who cares about factors like salary, NTC, player preference, contracts. It's all about that sexy name we have all heard of.

Well whether we wanted Bou gone as soon as possible, the fact is he had some value and I don't think we got value for him.
Anyone know how St. Louis has retained Berra's rights? He was drafted in 06 and it doesn't look like he has ever been signed. I thought a team loses a players rights after two years, if they don't sign him.

Actually I kind of hate this for the Blues... particularly if they miss the playoffs. The two prospects are basically a write-off, so I'm not terribly concerned one way or another there. But JayBo's cap hit may prevent them from retaining the services of Pietrangelo (not likely they let him go) or more likely, Kevin Shattenkirk, who is simply a better player than Bouwmeester. Notwithstanding their cap situation, how much can they really afford to put into their blue line? Pietrangelo is a 6+ million dollar player and I would expect Shattenkirk is about 5. That's over 17 million into 3 defensemen. And they give up a 1st for the privilege of being in that situation.
EDIT: And after checking Capgeek, hey, guess whether Chris Stewart is getting a pretty massive raise going RFA this year? I'm thinking so. Also, Berglund is going to want more than the 2.2 he's making now, dude's a 4M guy (though I expect he wiill get 3.something). The Blues are about to start paying a lot more money for the same team, it just baffles me that they think now is the time to take on a near-7 million dollar player.

The value of the return makes some sense to me. The team involved doesn't.
