Apparently Halak was hurt tonight...
Feel bad for you guys I thought Bouwmeester would net a good prospect with a first.

We should thank Hartley that he got enough out of Jay Bo to get a 1st + 2 prospects instead of maybe a 3rd rounder.

If we had a half decent GM we'd have Maatta, Schwartz, and 2 first rounders instead of 2 firsts and 4 nobodies.

Why? I will ask again, how many have seen any of the 4 prospect players, involved in Iginla or Bouwmeester trades, in multiple games?
The team was 2 or 3 years late in starting the rebuild.
That was the organizational faux pas. Too many people discounting the intelligence of other Gms.
Now it is about patience and a lot of it.

They'll be on a position to bend teams over on trades. One of the only teams with deep pockets and cap space.

All I know from this trade is that not one single tv announcer can actually pronounce Bouwmeesters name properly.

As long as they got a first out of this trade, I figure it a win. Should be a 15-20 or so, unless the Blues make a decent playoff run (which is not at all out of the question).

Because nobody is going to trade you a top young talent for a guy most teams wouldn't acquire for nothing as a free agent at his salary?

Maybe this has been addressed elsewhere in the thread (I really don't have time to read it all with the game starting), but is management going to simply ship Kipper off for whatever they can get in order to bring in Berra for next season? MacDonald+Berra for next season?

I really the sliding pick aspect from the Flames prospective. If the Bouwmeester Curse lives on, we add a forth this year, and get a none playoff draft pick next next year. If not 3 firsts in a strong draft.
+ we a shaping up to be the only wealthy team with money to spare in a off season that will see a league wide cash crunch. This is not only good from a free agent stand point, but from a trade stand point. Look at the deals the oilers made for Peca and Pronger in '05. We could be positioned for something like that this summer. (if we can off load Kipper and Cammi even more so).

Cap space is like money in the stock exchange: it's value only manifests if you sell your stocks.
Cap space is only useful a) if the owners decide to spend it and b) if you can attract 27year old UFAs to sign on to part of a rebuild.
