Man. Nelson and whatever else the Islanders would have offered would have been nice but i can understand why Bouw wouldn't want to go their.

Only if you ink him long term.
Otherwise it is clear that you should deal him this deadline, at the draft or next deadline for the best return possible because what he gets back can help us for a decade and he'll be gone after next season.

Yes.
Don't see why he would though unless he has zero competitive drive in him. Surely the guy wants to taste the playoffs no?

Isles who have a tight budget just signed visnovsky to a 2 yr/$9.7m deal and the are close to re-signing their captain Streit. Snow said weeks ago he'd be trying to sign those players.
No way have they been also pushing forJbow's $6m+ salary.
They are not a team, who can have $15m-$16m tied up in their top 3 d-men.

They were also thinking about trading Visnovsky before they signed him. If rumour from T&T is true, then they probably would have traded for JBO and then traded a soon to be UFA Visnovsky.

Yes I agree. I would offer him a 4 year extension at 6 mill/per right now taking him til 2018.
If he declines the extension I'd trade him tomorrow.

I hope so. Bouwmeester has displayed his old offensive touch that Calgary has been looking for these last three years. All it took was an canning a terrible coach in favour of a real NHL level offensive specialist coach.
Now that bouwmeester is playing well the flames need to keep him. If he keeps playing like this I wouldn't mind giving him a raise on an extension. I could even see captain material from him next year, he is obviously a well respected player who displays incredible leadership.
The Flames are going to need him to help steer this 2 year rebound (not a rebuild). He will be necessary for the playoffs in 2014 and to help mentor Seth Jones, show him what it takes to be an nhl defencemen.
Whatever you could get for him in a trade is not worth it based on what he brings to the team. you're better off keeping him. Just look at the averages for draft picks. What's the likelihood of getting a player like bouwmeester with a couple of picks. Zilch, pretty much.

Yes. Completely reverse on every issue compared to previously. Extend Bouwmeester, Stajan and bring back bubba from retirement. Heck sign every whipping boy from the last 5 seasons

No way to extending him, trade him. His value is high, we need to multiply our assets now and get top picks next couple of years.

If the isles had traded Vosnovky who's cap hit is a couple of millions more, then his take home salary, Snow would have looked for another cheap player.
They would not have went shopping for a $6m+ d-man, who makes $6m+ in real salary, no unreachable bonuses to inflate the cap hit.

Can't blame Bouwmeester for not wanting to go to the Island. If he was traded there he probably would never play in the playoffs.

Maybe its just me, but i do think the Isles because they are moving to Brooklyn, will start to spend more money over the next couple of years.

They're tied for the 8th seed in the East.

Except the Islanders are actually in a position to make the playoffs right now. Tied with the Rangers at 35 points, 8th and 9th.
Not great but they have a much better chance than the Flames do.
Dooooo it Bouw! You want to play there.

I would if we could. But anyone suggesting it didn't listen to Bouwmeester's interviews. He wants the playoffs. He won't stay in Calgary. He isn't being traded to the NYI. He isn't getting traded to Tampa. He isn't getting traded to Philly.
If he is traded it will be to a team with a legitimate shot. My best guess is it will be at next years deadline. It sounds like nobody wants his salary due to the drop next season. It sounds like Calgary doesn't see the point in taking on part of his salary because they don't have to trade him now.
