As long as this team is going full on rebuild, I don't mind Feaster and Weisbrod holding the reigns. They appear to be decent at drafting and that's the most important thing for the franchise right now. That said, in a few years when it's time to build a team again, I hope they're both gone.

Just a little plus side on the trade here to cheer people up:
Neither guy has a contract, so the Flames are now at 48 contracts. 2 open spots

As well, he brought back a 1st + 3rd. Iggy returned a 1st + 3rd + 5th

This is the case for sure? Minus Iginla too wouldn't that be 47?
Could be quite valuable as well

Feaster should be fired not because of this trade but because of the near disastrous ROR scenario and I'm not even talking about the waiver issue. I'm talking about trading a top 5 pick for ROR. What a brutal deal that would have been.

Is Edwards Canadian or an American?
Feaster and Weisbrod are both South of the border.
Regardless just like how the US likes to support American which there is absolutly nothing wrong with that i pray the next GM group is Canadian!

In before some Feaster apologist says 'but we wouldn't be picking top 5', but forgets to look at the current standings and where Colorado is with ROR now.

I posted this in another thread but I think it deserves to be mentioned. Wayne Gretzky at 35 was traded for Patrice Tardif (played 65 NHL games), Roman Vopat (played 133 NHL games), Craig Johnson (played 533 NHL games), 5th round and a 1st round pick (both picks never played a game in the NHL). Even if your name is Wayne Gretzky and you are a 35 year old rental you are not bringing anything of value back. The key in the entire thing is the 1st rounder, which the flames got. If the NCAA kids play anything in the NHL it will be a bonus.

sorry... off topic... that picture just made me go to the wikipedia page for tropic thunder and the Calgary Heralds review of the Trailer for the movie somehow manage to make the wiki page:
Quote:
A trailer for the film was released in April 2008. The Calgary Herald gave it a rating of 3/5, commenting: "This could either be good or very, very bad."[61]

I know anyone can add anything, but still seems..... odd

Flames were bad 3 years ago, noticeably bad, they only really had bad options at that point, ride it out and hope the team somehow turns it around or sell off your players and take the bitter pill. There were no good options.
When a decision maker is in this situation they to become MORE risk seeking. Instead of cutting their losses and minimizing their pain, the agent will actually pursue less likely riskier scenarios that have higher payoffs.
The analogy is that you've bought a house and it's going down in price, all signs in the market are that the price declines will continue. For a rational agent the proper decision would be to sell the house immediately and cut your losses. For a human decision maker they will most likely choose to hold onto the house and hope that house prices turn around, or they spend more money to renovate the house and try to increase it's resale value. This behaviour is widely observed in behavioural studies and it's what has afflicted the Flames management.
|
you forgot the last part, after years spending more money the human decision maker finally sells the house for quarter of original value and then rationalises the whole experience in his head that "the market crashed, nothing I could have done"

King and the idiots holding the cards should be ashamed of themselves. This team is done and irrelevant for several years now. Thanks.

Great post. It drives me absolutely crazy to see some blaming Iginla for screwing over the franchise.

Not just a Feaster problem now guys, the whole organization, board, table, owners, etc. They all have their votes, input, and overall best decisions to make.
Too bad they have been poor.

Iginla has been the best winger in the league for the past decade? um maybe a decade ago for a span of 3 years. Iggy hasn't been a top player for while now be honest with yourselves

Good to see we are holding the GM to such lofty standards as the Leafs.

Since the 2003 lockout, please name a few winger you would have rather had. Last few seasons bring down his avg a bit over that time, but his peak years were easily put him in the cream of the crop amongst any winger in the league hands down. Stats as well as the intangibles made that abundantly clear.
