So to sum:
1. Pittsburgh now has half of 2010 Team Canada.
2. Half of Calgary's prospect base is rooted in the NCAA.

End of the day I truly believe Iginla's heart was set on Pittsburg even thought there was 3 other teams on the list. I think he had the other teams just so it would give the Flames a bit mroe leverage and the Penguins couldn't say its us or nothing.
Could Feaster have gotten a better prospect? Not sure it all depends on how much the Penguins value giving up 1st round picks.

I do agree the Boston deal with a conditional 1st is awful and likely then on par with the Pittsburgh deal.

Given where the Pens and Flames will be drafting, you might as well go the extra step and say Iginla was traded to recoup our second round pick.

It's actually a guaranteed 1st, and 2 prospects that have a good chance of slipping into Calgary's top 10 prospect pool. The Flames scouting staff has done a lot of scouting in the NCAA recently. Because we haven't heard of these guys, does not make them worth nothing. Much better options than a non-superstar Russian and a potentially bottom pairing d-man.
The first is likely to produce the best asset in either the Pitts deal or the rumoured Boston deal. That automatically makes the Pitts deal better.

That's not a bad thing. The NCAA is becoming like Europe was 20 years ago, full of untapped talent. The current system, where players go junior, minors, pro writes many off at age17. The NCAA gives them a chance to develop, and more and more quality players are choosing that route.

Even then, Boston still needs to re-sign a starting goalie and backup goalie, which will probably combine for 5-6 mil in cap space used, which makes it impossible for them to sign Iggy unless he takes a massive discount.
2) Potential bottom pairing d-man....The Flames have about a dozen of those in their system now. They're virtually worthless and tend to walk after not working out: see Pelech.
3) Borderline Russian prospect. He can join all those other borderline top 6 Russian players in the NHL....oh no wait, those no longer exist. It's 2013, and they all play in the KHL now. There are only 22 Russian players in the NHL, and none of them are journeymen or struggling players. Russians only play for their pay-day these days. That means they become 3+ mil players right out the gate, or they go back to Russia for 3+mil, and I don't blame them. However, you don't put stock in them either.
So basically, the Boston deal was Iggy for Negrin or Pelech.

I think you are missing my point. I also think that the Boston deal was bad, but that does not make the Pitt trade good. It just makes it the Pitt deal better than the Boston deal. Neither of the 2 deals should have been on the table when Iggy was making his decission.
We have a GM and ownership group that could not get a guaratnteed 1st from Boston and could not get anything other than "meh" players from Pitt included with a guarantee 1st. By no means did i think they could get a blue chip prospect, but they should have been able to get a better player than the 2 they got.
There is not one media guy that thinks Feaster and Co did not get raped on this deal.

My goodness, the longer this thread gets the lower these guys slip down the depth chart. First they both topped out at 2nd line, then 3rd. Now you're booting them to the 4th?
In another couple of pages we'll be lucky if these guys are not quadriplegic!

Let me get this straight, you are saying that the Flames should have got a better deal than what anyone was offering? Yeah, that makes sense. Definitely should have told them to pound sand so we could watch Iginla walk for nothing in a couple months. Total no-brainer.
