The 1st round pick is the most important piece and now the Flames have to make that count. I'm a little disappointed that Maata or Pouliot weren't one of the players coming back as I have the Hockey News Future watch in front of ma and Agostino and Hanowski aren't even in their top 10 prospects.
I think the Penguins are a better fit for Iggy though so good for him in that aspect.

That's exactly it though... they do that and you know that Meehan is making a stink to the media and the Flames get completely blackballed among potential UFA's and others going forward. This was one of the trades where there were external factors at play and had to be handled carefully. You can't just bully a legacy player like Iginla into a deal without it blowing up in your face.
Obviously the return isn't what we all wanted but we weren't getting that for a 35 year old rental. I'm not enamored with Feaster and Weisbrod's fascination with NCAA kids but let's see how it turns out.
Hopefully these guys stock up draft picks now.

I love that Fredrik, from f'in Sweden and in post 666, was the first person here to mention it. Just adds something special to it.

Here's my issue - why did it take Feaster 2.5 years of watching this garbage hockey team before he FINALLY tries to swing it around??
That, IMO is a reason why I want to see Feaster AND the rest of Flames' management hang.
It was obvious this was a horrible team, and the Flames sat on it, and now will be full scorched earth since they will not be getting value for their assets.
This Management team (King included) should be proud, they have completed what looked to be the impossible - they have become a bigger joke than the K-Lown show in Edmonton.
Way to go King & Feaster, you cowardly morons.

NHL Player(s) Comparison: Andrew Brunette, Tomas Vanek
Scouting Combine Performance:
- Sorokin noted: “from what I saw, this is a top character guy. A future leader, and apparently he absolutely destroyed some high school records, so who knows, with a few years in the juniors or NCAA, a solid NHLer could come out of this kid.”
International Tournaments: n/a

Risk-Reward Analysis: Risk = 4/5 Reward = 4/5
NHL Potential: Offensive, goal-scoring forward
Fantasy Hockey Potential: Offensive = 8/10 Defensive = 5.5/10
Can't find out who Kenneth Agostino is compared too...

I am still sad to see Iggy go but hopefully he wins 2 Stanley Cup in a row then come back to Calgary and retire as a Flame.
As for the players we got in return, i won't even pretend that these guys are good or not because this is the first time I heard of any of them. Are any of them at least a potential first line centre?

Yeah. And you know Meehan was sliding along a bit of inside info to Shero that, really, it was always going to be Pittsburgh. So it seems Shero held all the aces from the start, and Feaster had some string a scotch tape. My worry is that he used Boston to try to squeeze Shero, even knowing that he'd always have to accept Pitt's final offer, which may have reverberations in Feaster's relations with the GM community moving forward.

Ah well, at least we got a 1st round pick (even though low) and now the team can truly start a rebuild. My hope is Iginla take 1-3 years to win a cup and then comes back to the Flames for 1-2 years as an old vet to finish off where he started.

Seeing Ward get fleeced on national TV was awesome.
Beyond that, I have nothing positive to add at this time.

This trade reeks of Erixson fiasco all over again. Feaster can feed us all the horse#### he wants but he messed it up again. All the ppl keep defending him cause they always give him a pass cause "his hands were tied", but reality is he's out of his league when it comes to being a GM in this league. No one here was happy with the package he was getting from the Bruins so lets not kid ourselves with this crap he got from Pittsburgh because his hands were tied. He basically should have created a bidding war for Iginla to up the price and then should have also known where Iginla wanted to go out of the four places, so he would know which offer to take.
Feaster basically concentrated on one team, got caught off guard when Iginla wanted to go somewhere else and then had to go hat in hand to Shero and see what he could get. Shero basically looked around on the floor, saw a half-licked lollipop on the floor, picked it up, blew on it and handed it to Feaster. This is the worst kind of return you can get for the best player on your team. All week we kept hearing its better to get quality over quantity in these type of deals and what does Feaster end up doing...getting quantity. He got bunch of players that don't even have a high ceiling, and I bet they were doing high-fives in the Pens front office when Feaster came calling again.
This team isn't going anywhere fast. Players get their way with Feaster, GMs get their way with Feaster. Heck it seems he doesn't even control any decision making. Worst of all we laugh at the Oilers and Kevin Lowe, but I feel Ken King is worst than Kevin Lowe. As long as Ken King and Feaster are here, I don't think we can expect things to get any better any time soon around here. I see dark, dark days for this franchise. How the ownership doesn't realize this is beyond me. Its like we have a bunch of Charles Wangs in the ownership group. I don't even known how our fan base can laugh at any other team any more cause we are worst off than any other team. Feaster has no plan or direction because it seems every trade it ends up that "his hands were tied". I have no faith in this management anymore. I will continue to support my team but I don't expect any miracles anytime soon. I think thats the problem here, ownership knows fans will support the team no matter what, and they don't feel any heat from these poor decisions.
At least with my Jaguars, the new owner realized that the problem was the GM and the coach so changes were made. The team might suck for a few years but at least there is hope for the future. But there is no hope here, these guys don't manage assets well, and I have no faith in deals that are coming before deadline. Especially now cause of what we got back for Iginla. Anyone expecting any great deals for any of other players is delusional about Feaster's capabilities.

So if your second favorite team trades their captain to Pittsburgh, and then your favorite team trades their captain to Pittsburgh, and when your country plays in the Olympics, the Pittsburgh captain is the captain of your country... can you cheer for Pittsburgh?
