So, if Kiprusoff is playing for the Flames, and he is on the road for most of April, at least when his team comes home, he comes home to his family where he can still be of support. If he is playing elsewhere and his team isn't on the road, he is still away from his family at a time when they need him, even if his work keeps them away from being home 24x7. A little bit over the next month, is better than not at all. Kiprusoff doesn't want a trade because of this? I say be good to your employees and let him have his wish.

Doesn't mean Feaster can't entertain offers, and tell Kipper, "look, this team is willing to give me something good, would you reconsider?".
Couldn't agree more, and tonight on Sportsnet they did mention that maybe everything did not go well with Oskars birth. I can tell you first hand, that when there are complications during birth your wife needs allot of help the first few weeks.

I still think it is vary possible Kipper told the team he does not want to be moved this week, and the media has blown out of proportion.

And as an employer if the Flames are willing to respect that good on them.

Assuming the retirement talk is just rumor mongers looking at his contract and thinking that could be a story. I am sure if the flames wanted to move him, he might be more open to it in the off season. When his son is a little older, his wife has recovered fully, and he has more time available to help move them so they can be close to him.

Assuming the retirement talk is true, I'm sure any prospective trade partner would know Kippers agent well enough to know that was a possiblity anyway. So it wouldn't really matter.

I clearly remember him being right about McCabe to the Rangers because as soon as he tweeted it was close to done Dreger & McKenzie swooped in to try and discredit it, only to have Kypreos freak out and refer to them as "those ####ers from TSN" then be proved right minutes later when the trade went through.

Quite frankly I find Kypreos about as accurate as Dreger. He's not nearly as bad as some make him out to be.

they can't confirm it, if they say that they signed him with the intention of him retiring early it's cap circumvention and there will be fines and lost picks.

Who here would?

I don't (and I don't think any of us do) know if this is true, but if it is, good for him. There's more to life than your job.

The cool thing about being rich, and being the best person in the world at your job for a few years, is that you don't have to do what you don't want to. You can do whatever you want. Hell, that's the point.

Don't have to work anymore? Don't work. Don't want to move? Don't move. Have enough money to live for the rest of your life and don't need any more? Mission: Accomplished.

This guy doesn't owe the Flames, much less us, a damn thing.
You would just think there would be a tad bit of loyalty to an organization that has literally given you the chance to play in the league. I could understand next year if you want to retire, but putting a gun to the organizations head and saying you won't report if you trade me this year because you don't want to play away from calgary for a month or two is ridiculous. I really wish Iggy had said this to see the reaction of some of you people, the free pass Kipper gets is ridiculous.

The slavery days are over you know. Nobody can force you to work if you really don't feel like it.

Of course, if you refuse to work you're not going to get paid, but that's what makes it fair.

It sucks that we propably can't trade him with a rumour like this going around, but at the end of the day, a man has the right to make his own choices.

The Flames owe him nothing should he decide to hang up the pads this summer. The contract itself was written in such a way with the Flames management expecting the possibility he might retire one year early.

Some people keep bringing up that he is free to retire at any point, much like anyone is. They are right. Anyone can retire at any given time in their respective careers, they wouldn't get paid but they already know that.

Personally, I think the only thing wrong in this situation is the fact that Kipper isn't retiring. He didn't come out and say "On April 28th I am going to retire from playing in the NHL" He's basically said that "I am still going to play in the NHL as long as I get my way. If you trade me (even though you have the right to trade be) I'm not going to report to that tem and I"ll retire. It's my way or the highway"

He's acting like a 5 year old. If he plans on retiring, he should just retire and it really seems underhanded that he's manipulating the Flames because the only ones who suffer from this are the team and the fans.

Actually a lot of people do that in real life. If the circumstances of their job change they choose to leave that company or if they are old enough/have enough money they just retire.

He has (allegedly) simply admitted to the team that it would not be worth it to him to play if he were moved. Saving the team the trouble of a trade reversal. Theres no reason for him to move this close to retirement with 1.5/35 of his 7 year salary remaining. Pretty simple. He would like to keep playing in calgary, if the team still really doesnt want him i believe they could force retirement by sendig him to abbotsford? So then what is the issue, they obviously would rather playing him this year then not at all.

Also the fans are not hurt in anyway by not having a scriven/2nd package. Your life will go on. That would be a pretty stupid thing to consider when making life decisions that actually effect the person making them.

Yes, you're right. Lots of people do things in the world, it doesn't mean it's right to do them. I don't feel it's right for Kipper to say "I will only play here and if you trade me, I'm throwing a hissy fit and leaving for Finnland"

He has the right to do whatever he wants. He could get in net tonight and move out of the way from every shot he faces. I don't think that's right either. I don't think he will do that but at this point who knows. He has the right to do anything he wants.

I don't think looking out for your and your family's best interest is the wrong thing to do.

So if your job called you up tomorrow and asked you to move to some craphole in the middle of nowhere, you would do it even though you know you would hate it? Because quitting or finding a job elsewhere wouldn't be right to you based on the above.

If I was under contract and I was going to be gone from almost the same amount of time, I don't think it would matter. Kipper is going to be gone for over half of the remaining games isn't he? He can move his family can't he?

Hard to compare this to "real life" as I doubt that most of us are able to be traded for an asset to help the company and in most cases we can be replaced a lot easier than Kipper can for the Flames.

As for the second part I have been sent to crapholes that I knew I would hate on rotations and did it just fine. Realistically all Kipper would have to do is go there for 3 months and retire after the season if he didn't like it.

I don't get what is so difficult to understand here. The guy just had a baby (Kypreos even mentioned possible birth complications) and has prioritized his family over hockey. NMC or not, he has more than earned the right to ask the Flames to accommodate this request.

Moving his family with a brand new baby is out of the question.

But then the question is why bother for 3 months if he is about to retire after a $30+ million
career?

Problem is the flames are all out of carrot here. Kipper has been paid and doesnt owe the team any nebulous favors outside working for his wage for as long as he wishes. The beauty of our economic system and workers rights at work.

3 months ago, I would've agreed with this. But 3 months ago was the birth of our first child, and the amount of stuff that happens in that span is amazing. There's something new every couple of days really.... and any father would hate to be away from that. I actually did go away for a week at one point and it seemed like I came back to a whole new baby. Not seeing her for 3 months? That would seriously blow balls.

And it's not like you can move a newborn to a new city. You can't take them on an airplane at this age.

I didn't buy the idea that Jaromes wife and his older kids couldn't adapt to a 3 month vacation in Boston or LA. But a newborn? Yeah, I hear ya Kipper.

In the end, who cares?

I respect Kipper for saying he needs to stay here to help his wife, it's kind of nice to see in this day and age of sports. Yes it sucks that we couldn't move him and get something for him and give him, but life will go on.

Have I lost any respect for Kipper? No, but that doesn't mean I'm not disappointed we can't move him to help with the rebuild.

I mean it just figures right? An asset the Flames can put in play and he refuses. If if was a goalie on another team there would be a collective razzing of him going on for days on this site. But we excuse him for his stated reasons. Those reasons sound good to a family man like myself but nonetheless the Flames get hooped again.

They just never seem to be able to move forward whatever the reasons/excuses.

Well if he's alredy saying he doesn't want to be away from his family, he probably won't be going on any more road trips. If the FLames are looking at moving him, they know it might drop them in the standings and they'd get a better draft pick. So maybe he should just retire right now and stay at home.

Like I've said, I would be more than happy for the guy if he just retired now. Playing out a meaningless season just to get paid but saying it has to be under his circumstances is just wrong.

I would LOVE if he just retired today.

I have worked on a rotational schedule for most of my 4 childrens lives so I do understand 100% the situation of missing stuff as kids grow. Perhaps that makes me less sympathetic since myself and many others I know have done similar things for longer times with a lot less to gain.
