What does birth complications have to do with the hockey world and trades? Besides speculating without having all the facts creates rumours that are not fair to Kirpusoff and his family. Leave that garabge out of trade discussions and speculations.

If he's as bad as you say he is (don't want to get into that again honestly) then it's not much of a handcuff and I'm confused why it would be an issue. It's been known since he signed this contract he would be gone this summer anyways. Don't see it being that big of an issue.

When is the last time a goalie of Kippers caliber was traded at the deadline? I don't see a market for him and if he was traded I think most people would be very underwhelmed at the return. Facts being facts the Flames have a better record this year without him than with him. I'll never run him out of town, but there is absolutely no reason I could possibly think of to have him come back next year really. His personality doesn't lend itself to being a mentor so far as I can see.

Kolzig was traded in '09, but I think by that age, he was pretty much just an anchor that was being shipped out.
The Blue Jackets also shipped out Leclaire the same year, but he probably wouldn't be considered a comparable to Kiprusoff.

In 2008, Huet was traded for a 2nd, but again, not Kiprusoff level probably.

The last one close may have been Roloson to the Oilers. Aging goaltender, starter level. He had netted a 1st and a conditional 3rd (which was given).

If nobody would give up anything for him then it's a moot point. But there might be someone out there who would.

He is handcuffing us whether or not he has value.

Chances are this is the last NHL season for Kipper, I don't see him coming back next year. So Kiddies, you might as well enjoy it and give him some gratitude on the last home game of the season.

Most likely Kipper is going to retire and wants to go as a Flame, so if Iggy does get traded, Kipper probably won't be here anyways.

Normally when a player gets traded at the deadline, his family stays behind until the end of the season, or school year if they have kids. I doubt Mrs. Kiprusoff and little Oskar would be up for moving to a temporary home in another city right now. They'll stay where it is comfortable, at their home in Calgary.
So, if Kiprusoff is playing for the Flames, and he is on the road for most of April, at least when his team comes home, he comes home to his family where he can still be of support. If he is playing elsewhere and his team isn't on the road, he is still away from his family at a time when they need him, even if his work keeps them away from being home 24x7. A little bit over the next month, is better than not at all. Kiprusoff doesn't want a trade because of this? I say be good to your employees and let him have his wish.

Doesn't mean Feaster can't entertain offers, and tell Kipper, "look, this team is willing to give me something good, would you reconsider?".

Kiprusoff has better stats of course, but you cant really compare between two entirely different eras.

Not trying to dimish what Vernon meant to the team, but he also had a very good team in front of him. Another reason why it is hard, but not impossible to compare Vernon and Kiprusoff.

My opinion of Vernon as an elite goaltender died in 1990

I enjoy a good old fashioned freakout as much as the next guy but has this actually been confirmed from a source other than Kypreos saying Kipper wouldn't report to anyone else or is he the gospel now?

The Flames owe him 1.5 million dollars, he owes the Flames 1 year of hockey. That's the fact, all the rest is opinion.
I haven't earned a gazillion dollars in my lifetime which would allow me to break an agreement with my current, or future, employer. Perhaps I would if I had the money, who knows?

I've got no problem with it. If the man wants to retire a Flame then let him.

He, like Iginla, has the right to do what's best for him. I, a greatful muggle who appreciates their contributions the the flames and Calgary, will respect whatever they decide. Period.

The Flames don't have to pay him if he retires/doesn't report.
