Need to dispel a rumor. Iginla NOT in Boston today. Here in Chicago with #Flames as usual. Who knows maybe later. Yes Iginla here.

I think it's a fair deal...but I don't see the prospect being A-grade if there's an established roster player in the deal... Well, maybe with Tanguay in there as well, I guess that's different...my point is, I hope Feaster focuses on acquiring he highest grade of futures possible, as opposed to established players with a limited upside... I'd prefer to have the outside chance that Iggy is traded for a future franchise player... Or, at least, all-star calibre player... It's worth the risk.

You'd enforce it with conditional picks in the deal (if he re-signs where he's traded we get an extra pick).

If it's Chicago, I hope its not McNeil. Flames seem to always be drawn to players of his type. We should shoot for higher than him, someone with a higher upside.

Iggy can demand to only waive his NMC clause provided the team that acquires him signs him to an extension
Or include conditional picks in the deal (Pitt just did this with Douglas Murray)

Answer: Conditional assets in the trade. We have seen multiple variations of conditional rental player trades that could include playoff success or re-signing conditions.
For example we could structure the trade like this:
To Boston:
Iginla
To Calgary:
2013 1st round pick
Spooner
2014 pick (1st round if Boston wins the cup, 3rd round if they make the conference finals)
2014 pick (2nd round if Boston re-signs Iginla, otherwise nothing)
Usually you only see one conditional item in a trade but the example makes the point.

Agreed. I feel like we already have what could turn out to be a Mark McNeil in Bill Arnold. I could be wrong, but he didn't wow me in the World Juniors when he played this year.

If the Flames could pull that off I would be estatic. I don't see Boston doing it.

Problem is if it's a trade with Chicago, McNeil & Teravainen are probably their top slated prospects at the moment... unless they'd part with Saad, but I doubt that.

the only way that would work is if Iginla signs a new contract with Boston.

On a recent trip to Rome I managed to meet and start "partying" one night with some good looking girls from Halifax. They were big hockey fans (one of their brothers used to play in the Q) and we started talking about players from Nova Scotia, and they ended up knowing quite a few of them through their brother, etc. They had mostly good things to say about everyone, except Brad Marchand. They let me in a number of "local legends" regarding Marchand, I won't get into the gritty details as I can't confirm them, but needless to say if true the man has zero class/respect for himself and possibly severe drinking issues as well.

I could see us getting conditional picks based on playoff success, but I don't think Iginla's agent would advise him to waive his NTC if there are conditional picks based on him re-signing because that would hurt his value as a free agent.

If we're getting TT as well as part of a package, then fine.
However, Ray Shero has set the trade market panic level to 'bat sh*t crazy', so I want Calgary to fully bend someone over and buttsecks them for all they are worth. McNeil isn't the sticky, messy finish we're looking for.

I don't either, it's not like they need a "shake-up" trade. But even at their current ages, Iginla and Tanguay are a better offensive combo than Peverley and Lucic.....plus the Bruins still have their Bergeron/Krejci/Kelly "battery" down the middle, and young stars in Marchand and Seguin up front, with Spooner and Khokhlachev on the way.

I agree, and if they could get him extended to a fair deal I think Boston has to add. Something like a conditional pick.
