I was given a very nice watch collection a few years ago. I currently have a Tissot, a Rolex, and a gorgeous Jaeger LeCoultre that I wear (I'll post pics later).
I also have a Tudor watch but I noticed that it has several Rolex parts on it, evidenced by the crown. Why would this be? Is it simply a repair job using parts from a different watch company? and what value (if any) would this add to the Tudor watch? It's a really cool looking watch btw (submariner I believe)

Tudor is a brand owned by Rolex. I am not too familiar with them, but my understanding is that the older models used some Rolex parts. As far as I am aware, they no longer use Rolex parts.
From what I have seen of their last few years releases, they are distancing themselves slightly from Rolex to be a legitimate brand of their own.

Nothing wrong with a Tissot. They still source their movements from a good ETA company. Tissot is also the lower end of luxury timepieces, so they're considerably cheaper than the other and yet provides all the necessary warranties and service like the big boys.

Yup, jtfrogger is correct. Tudor has a long history and a lot of their older stuff have rolex movements. Kinda like how Aston Martin is going to be using an AMG merc engine.

It's one of those brands thats in a little bit of that no-mans-land area of watches... better built then a lot of the cheaper mass-market stuff, but there's nothing special about them that would put them in the "watch guy" category. I think they tend to be viewed as a bit of a gateway watch....kind of like Tag.
Personally I prefer to stay out of that category. I would rather buy cheaper (sub $500) or over $3,000 as you start seeing uniqueness and perhaps even in-house movements.
At the end of the day though, who cares what others think. If you love it, get it.

I agree.
I've always felt the same about Movados, Bulovas, Esquires and a bunch of other watch companies.
To each their own, but not a no mans land watch guy either.

I don't really give a crap what other people think about my watch buying habits. I am in the "If you like it, wear it. Camp"
The only thing I won't buy are fashion watches. So I tend to stick to Seiko's Citizens, Casio's ( sorry I love some of the funky digitals), and I do have a few Invictas in the rotation, but only their Homage style watches. Not the gaudy, busy, 55mm wrist clocks.
Speaking of Invicta, this is probably the best watch for a starter collector that I just picked up last week. Invicta Grand-Diver. These now come with a Seiko NH35A hacking/winding movement, and the one I got is +3 secs, after a week. Which is crazy accurate for a $160 auto. It is right on the cusp of a little on the big side/too big. But I haven't had so many people ask "Wow, how much was that watch?" before. I bought it with the bright green bezel, because I had a customer with a beautiful Seamaster in that combo. So this is my poorboy, I can't afford a Seamaster... Seamaster. And I don't give a hoot if the thing gets bashed up. Band is awesome, and the thing is like 220 grams. I believe it is a 48 mm diameter.
Invicta 3044
This is the non-hacking movement, but aside from the jewel count, they look the same on the back.

Has anyone looked in the Tag Heuer outlet store in the north outlets in Vegas? Thinking of heading down there and considering picking one up if the prices are good...anyone have any experience at an TH outlet?

Well, after reading this thread a few dozen times and poking around on watchuseek, I fell in love with the Speedmaster Co-axial Chrono. However until I can justify foregoing a decent trip or a handful of mortgage payments, I went for the Nighthawk (horrible photo - maybe it would have been money better spent on a macro lens):
I really dig the black on black and I'm very happy with the fit & finish of the watch. I think that's about as big as I'd go for a case size on my wrist.
Big thanks to Windsor and Table for their comments, and to Pylon who steered me to Watchit, who still had the 20% off sale going.

I have a few of these things. There is a guy in section 216 with a nice one. Are you on here? Why do you always make sure it's so showy? Just wondering.

Really good deals for some stuff. Keep in mind most of their inventory consist of older models. You can get current model ones, but discount is a bit limited for those.
I've seen tag links and carrerras go for about 30-40%. I think in some cases as high as 50%

It's the North Premium outlet. I don't really know how to get there cause I wasn't the driver and I wasn't paying attention.

Just north of fremont. The strip/express bus takes you right to it. $3 a ride or something relatively cheap.
Just don't get on the deuce or you'll end up stopping at every hotel along the strip.
I've been in the Tag store there. Pretty decent deals, but as pointed out usually older models. I didn't know much about them at the time so a browsed and that was it.

I find that www.rolexforums.com and the SELL forum section is amazing. There are some great brokers on there moving timepieces that can be trusted.
Also, one of the best off the beaten path makers that sell direct to the public:
http://www.steinhartwatches.de
make some really fine swiss timepieces at great prices in limited editions.

When I first started looking into watches that were better than a timex I really did not get nor did I like the dive watches but the Orange monster and the new Orange bezel and black faced Omega Planet ocean have really changed my mind.
