The fact this was passed by the owners, and not the competition committee, tells you this is all about avoiding lawsuits. Which means the game will only continue to be made softer and softer, especially if/when the NFL losses these concussion suits.

Granted, NFL should be taking the concussion issue as seriously as possible. Evidence has shown that it's effect players negatively later on in life. Just because you played in the NFL for a while, doesn't mean your mental health should suffer afterwards.

Unless you've got your checkbook out to pay for these lawsuits I'd say it's pretty smart of the owners to do what they can to mitigate.

Well yeah, from a business perspective there's no doubt the NFL is being very smart to do whatever they can to cover themselves. From a giving officials another judgement call to manipulate the game, its a nightmare. This will be one of the most subjective calls in the game. I can't even imagine the reaction the first time a team loses a game because of this rule. I also can't imagine how watered down the game will be if the NFL loses these concussion lawsuits.

Interestingly only the Bengals voted against this.

The dolphin on that shirt isn't even the same as the supposed new logo

Courtesy of Uni Watch comes the most convincing leak to date of the Miami Dolphins new logo. Unless what we’re seeing here is a shipment of production samples to test the logo on team apparel and perhaps discuss it in a spirited focus group, it appears this is indeed the new look we’ll be seeing from the Dolphins.

If the comments below the article are any indication of the Dophin fan base. Looks like the above logo could be a total flop. More than one comment about the logo being "gay".

Definitely not a fan of all the homophobic comments about it, but it's certainly getting deserved criticism. It's a very amateurish logo, and it takes what was already a pretty soft logo and makes it even softer. I'd be very surprised if it turned out to be anything like this. Ross may have made some questionable moves with the Dolphins but the guy understands business and branding based on what you see with his other companies, hard to believe he'd let something like that out the door.

I agree with this guy's tweet on the new RB rule.

NFL Philosophy
Get it right: The RB crown rule isn't to protect players. It's to protect owners against current and future lawsuits.

And what would those lawsuits be based upon?

The thing about the RB rule is how disingenious it will appear when the NFL brings up the 18 game schedule again, which you know they will. The NFL is primarily concerned with avoiding lawsuits, not player safety, because exposing players to two more games means more cash for the owners and more risk to the players, yet they'd do that yesterday if they could.

I don't disagree with that, my point is that you can't point at the rule as something being installed to avoid/mitigate lawsuits and not for player safety reasons when those lawsuits are direct results of a failure to install player safety measures.

Osi Umenyiora made a visit to the Falcons today. I'd love them to get him. Obviously they need a pass rusher badly with Abraham gone, so this would be a huge signing.

The same kinds of suits they are dealing with now regarding concussions with ex-players. The lawsuits would be based on the fact "they didn't do enough to protect player health".

To summarize:

Owners want to avoid lawsuits

Lawsuits are based on owners not protecting player health

Therefore in order to avoid lawsuits owners must protect player health.

Ed Reed has agreed to terms with the Texans. Hopefully he has something left in the tank!

Sad to see that Brian Urlacher and the Bears have all but parted ways after the Bears' latest contract offer. Hopefully he can go to another contender in the AFC.
Marc Trestman outright said that he believes Urlacher still has enough in the tank to be a '2 down LB', hard to argue at this point that BU is no longer an every down option

In all fairness, how do you take a sports team named the Dolphins, with those coloures and not have a "soft logo"?

Exactly. You can't say these rules are about lawsuits, not player health, when those lawsuits are based upon player health. That twitter user apparently can't follow the logic train for more than one stop.

Texans sign Ed Reed. 3 years 15 million, 5 guaranteed. I like that contract, I was worried they were going to overpay in the end.
