Can you do anything to fight off the dinosaur or just left it destroy a bunch of stuff and rebuild?

Nothing you can do. It's a "natural" disaster, same as a tornado.

So nobody has a suggestion as to why my game is running so poorly all of a sudden? I uninstalled and reinstalled to see if that helped and no go.

It could possibly be a problem with your SimCity account getting all buggered up in the first few days. I would try to get Origin Support to reset it or something.

I have no other games. Maybe I'll get a demo of something and see.

Well after the frequent number of rollbacks, random progress loss, and generally stupid bugs, my city has straight up failed. Unable to load, at all. Which is really annoying after sinking 20 hours into a city. I think I'll call it quits for a while. I'm gonna grab my free game, and then see if I can get a refund.
*sigh* Onto Heart of the Swarm for now.

You could also try bringing the settings way down (bring the resolution to 1024x768 or something like that, and set all the settings down to minimum) to see if that makes a difference.
Reinstall video card drivers, reinstall DirectX. It sounds video related rather than communication related.

I have had 0 problems in my region on NAW2. It's a damn shame that it seems some cities are completely fubared (like mine on NAW1 in Morning Wood).

Now that all the server issues seem to be dying off, my biggest peeve/place for improvement in the game is the access to the region. I would think it would be better to be able to add another connection to the highway (even at a cost) and be able to upgrade the interchanges.
I grabbed 2 plots next to each other and am using alot of workers from my second plot but its basically a parking lot from one city to the next.

I've found that I have to manage my traffic into the city better. I spent a good half hour watching the cars as they entered the city to see where they were going and tried to optimize that.
One thing I found was that having high density and popular buildings right next to the entrance would frequently cause backups.

I read on IGN's SimCity wiki page today that sims won't cross the street to use the bus, so you have to put bus stops on both sides. I haven't had a chance to test this yet, but it could explain why buses suck so much.

I'm hoping they will slowly work on these things once the server issue is fixed for everyone. There are a couple things I have noticed that made me scratch my head but just remind myself an update could fix all those things. *crosses fingers*

So dumb question
I want to sell oil to the word market
- My Trading Depot has 3/4 sections set to oil - all full
- My oil wells stopped pumping because there is no where for the oil to go
- my income per day from oil has fallen from $125 grand to $45 grand per day
- I built the first step of a oil headquaters
- my trading depot has no more room for trucks or anything
What has gone wrong? I can't get rid of it!
Thank you
