I really want to believe this rumor, but a couple questions jump out at me when trying to disprove it. Who was he interviewing with? Wasn't the entire management/ownership team on the Cali trip? and Wouldn't Burke be a better fit for the GM role instead of President?

There is a really good chance he is just here to scout Detroit and Nashville, both likely playoff matchups for the Ducks.

I sincerely hope that no one in the front office thinks they're still in it.

The rumor was he was here interviewing, so more than just a sighting.

Calgary has games at hand, is 6 points out of 8th and just needs a hot streak. Lets be intellectually honest, the answers are in the room.

I doubt very much that Burke is schlepping his arse around N America scouting games, his appointment in the Ducks is a curtousy gig in order for him to keep his hand and give him a base while he looks for a GM gig as soon as he can, if he is/was in Calgary it would be to sus out a gig here.
Not that that means he was being interviewed, Burke turning up at games in citys with teams in a shakey state is his way of making it clear he's in the market, essentially he is making it easy for an owner or president to wander down to the box and invite him out for a casual chat, 'why dont I give you a ride back to the airport' this is the hockey equivalent of the vultures circling

This could have also started in ANA while the team was there and had Burke and someone from the Flames brass fly back to conduct the interview. As much as there are reasons to think this rumor is untrue there just as many reasons to prove its validity.

He may be a scout for Anaheim, but I'm pretty sure if Burke's in town interviewing for a high profile job, the Ducks would let him.
Pretty Mickey Mouse for that organization (no pun intended) if they wouldn't.

When was the last time the Flames were sitting 15th in the conference?

While I can understand why you might say this, it seems like he is simply a figurehead in the guise of a GM. Most media, both local and national, viewing the Flames organization suggest King and ownership are inordinately active when it comes to on-ice personnel strategies and decisions. That said, maybe they are so engaged because they lack confidence in Feaster. I don't imagine a GM such as Burke would tollerate for such interference. You could be right ....

This has never happened to me before but a small part of me didn't want us to come back yesterday. For the good of the team in the bigger picture - coming back and winning would have certainly kept the "we're still in it, just need to get on a roll" mentality going within the organization. Come deadline day, when we traded a pick or two to tweak the roster I would have looked back on yesterday as part of the reason why.
While in the past we may have been a bounce or two away from squeaking in with a few extra points, it seems to me we are naturally regressing to the point of full rebuild anyways. The team legitimately is not in it this year when you look at the standings. What's worse is we'll have little to actually rebuild with if the "we're still in it" mentality persists and we don't start making bigger changes this year.
Hope they do the right thing at the deadline.

I agree with this.
No GM in their right mind would behave the way Feaster, and Sutter in his last year, have done.
We are witnessing a team that is being managed by millionaire/billionaire guys who know nothing more about hockey than the middle-aged guy I talked to at coffee time yesterday, telling me how David Moss was a real "up and come'r".
Ken King and ownership have horrible vision when it comes to judging players and what it takes to build a team. If they screw up at the trade deadline this year, I will be taking a break from supporting this team. It's maddening.

Do people still question that Ken King and the ownership group are interfering with hockey decisions?
Ken King went for horse back ride with one of for players and negotiated the contract with him while our GM was not around...if that is not a clear sign of interference I don't know what is.

If King doesn't go, we'll have a real tough time attracting anyone with options to take the GM position.

Claude Julien thinks so, called them a contender, I see no reason for him to say so if he didn't mean it.
I certainly don't see any other coach calling the Flames a contender, usually you just pay lip service to the opposition and say they are good but Julien called the Leafs a "legit contender".
Plus their play on the ice and record suggests so as well.
