I don't care if the GM is trying to "win now" or "rebuild". Frankly I think fans and media make too much of a fuss over the distinction.
I just want the GM to make smart moves. Good trades, finding hidden talent, and drafting well. So far Feaster's ability to do this in Calgary and TB is debatable, and Burke seems to have been able to do it for the most part wherever he has gone.

Terrible ice surface in Dallas / Goalie who can handle the puck? Force them to dump it in and have your goalie clear it with ease.

I'm not saying Tippett isn't effective (his teams in Dallas and Phoenix are evidence enough), I think overall his style of hockey is boring - both in Dallas and Phoenix.
Anyways, this point isnt really relevant. If ownership decides to make a bigtime top-down change, they have to be willing to say adios to everyone (and pay for it) - from the HC to the scouts to the media guy, etc.

I think our records are actually identical after 20 or so games last season and this team did that with Kipper out and only one actual center.
|
Yeah but Kipper's play is generally a reflection on the defense as a younger Kipper still had substandard stats of 2.84 GAA and .903 SV in Keenan's last season. Brent's more defensive oriented hockey was not as pretty to watch but more effective for this group. Kipper has been poor but there are times it's a fire drill in front of the Flames net this year and the Kings scored identical powerplay goals over two games where a man was wide open and uncovered at the side of the net. Those little details are on the coaches and I am shocked that after the first game the coaching staff didn't at least look at the tape to see what they were doing and have the players watching for that play. Maybe they did and Bouwmeester (the guilty defenseman that left Brown wide open behind him) had a brain fart. Either way it doesn't look good.

If there's any truth to these rumors, they should do it right now. I have no faith in Feaster in getting good value for assets at the deadline and Im also losing faith in Weisbrods ability in recognizing talent and scouting after the Cervenka-centre fiasco.
This deadline and the upcoming draft is of immense importance for the future of the Flames and you need someone who has a proven track record of asset management, like Burke, at the helm.

I agree, if it is Burke for President they do it right now. They might wait to do a bigger search for President or GM in the summer. I don't think Feasters job is safe at all.
This season is an epic fail considering the mandate of competing for playoff spot. The flames are 3 weeks away from the trade deadline and look to be a team that should be in sellers mode. That is the farthest thing from competing for a playoff spot.
I wonder if they keep Feaster for the rest of the season if he will be allowed to trade players that have contracts for next year? A new GM might not see things the way Feaster does, so why would he want the players that Feaster acquired at the deadline?

If the flames blow it up at the deadline my thoughts are Feaster and King are gone before then. If they don't bring in a new guy they will likely promote Weisbroad to interim GM. But I think the Burke rumors, real or not make sense

Feaster is rapidly running out of cover, he'll be gone by the draft.

I more surprised with the lack of any movement right now. Outside of the O'Reilly offer sheet there has been squat (I don't count McGratton as it was a nothing move really).

Yep. Unless the flames go on a tear, i think Feaster is all but done with the flames. The only question left is when?

If they are not bringing in a new guy before the deadline they will let Feaster and KK stay until the end of the season. They are not going to fire KK, they will promote him, and they won't do that until they have his replacement.
Not sure why they would fire Feaster before the deadline and have Weisbraod as interm GM? Those 2 seem to be on the same page, so i doubt it would make a difference on the players coming back in trade.

Well logic would suggest sooner rather than later but this is the Calgary Flames. I really hope there is some traction to this Brian Burke rumour. With him at the helm maybe we could be the fleecer rather than the fleecee in trades.

I also hope the Burke rumour is true. Problem is if it is not true, ( highly possible), i don't see a candidate out there that could step in now to take over.

Why's everyone so eager to get Brian Burke, he made one great trade at our expense and the rest of his actions never improved the Leafs that much. You want to fire our GM who hasn't made the playoffs in 2 years when Burke never made it in four years with the Leafs? Feaster definitely effed up with ROR but I fail to see Burke as Calgary hockey Jesus.

Maybe the Burke rumor isn't true but it would be strange if they didn't bring him in at some point to interview him for a position. He is still one of the best Hockey executives in the league. Adding Burke to the organization makes it stronger overall.

Good point...just researched Jim Nill. He has a non-compete clause in his current contract til 2015-2016...

Jim Nill has to be the hardest AGM to get out there... you'd think he'd want to be in the perfect situation before he's willing to jump off Detriot's ship. With KK/owners meddling rumours, not sure this location would be his ideal placement.

Didn't improve them? They went from bottom feeder to playoff(looks like it) team in his tenure. More than you can say for this management group.

I think Burke would do reasonably well at liquidating assets and setting a new vision for the club, but it's a fantasy to think this can all go down in a matter of a couple weeks. There's just not enough time for all the pieces to fall into place prior to the deadline. Whoever will be handling our trade deadline is already in the organization, be it Feaster, Weisbrod or otherwise.

Sadly right now i think a # of posters on CP could do just as good a job, if not better, than what our management is doing.
