I always laugh when I read posts like this...like we're supposed to coddle babies on this team just because they're our top prospects/young players. Sven is mature enough to understand his role. He won't be "scared" or "ruined".

Sven has flashes of brilliance for sure, but if you watch game in game out the kid gets pushed off the puck, turn-overs, loses puck battles, etc...an NHL coach is smart enough to see this and adjusts icetime accordingly.

He's allowed to make mistakes and develop, but he should also be held accountable and realize what he needs to work on. He'll be the better player for it in the long-run.

People rag on Hartley cause Comeau gets increased icetime and trust and Sven doesn't. That's because Comeau, despite his lack of offense, is never a liability at both ends of the ice - hate him all you want but he's earned the coach's trust....Sven will too, just give it time...

I've actually liked the way Hartley reads his players' momentum, match-ups, and shuffles lines accordingly...people seem to forget the insane mess Brent would combine...

I'm kind of getting frustrated now, with people saying that Baertschi is going to lose all of his confidence and skill because of being a healthy scratch for one game. He's a very professional player, and a person in general. If Hartley is going to be talking to him today, that's only going to build his confidence, not destroy it.

I'm ragging because we're sitting 12th in the West and 23rd overall. And say what you want about liability, Comeau is tied for 3rd worse on the team in plus minus.

Also, I agree with you about holding him accountable but that's not my issue. You can hold many guys accountable for their efforts but it seems to always be the "younger" guys that get reprimanded.

I don't recall saying "coddling" or giving our prospects the velvet glove treatment. I want our young guys to get a legitimate chance to fail and succeed.

So laugh at the post all you want.

Anybody know why the hell FLAMES central would be having some concert/music venue thing instead of playing the FLAMES game?

Cause the NHL likes money. We should all know that now.

Yeah, pretty sure the talk about how "Baertschi is going to be a great NHLer one day" is more or less about him getting sent down to Abby soon. That'd be the logical assessment right now with Backlund expected to be back any day now.

I don't think the NHL is involved with Flames Central, is it?

Amongst his young stars (1st rounders) he had in Atlanta:

Kovalchuk
Patrick Stefan
Jim Slater
Braydon Coburn (for about half a season)

My issue with Sven is that he looks like he needs to add some muscle and strength to really to be a solid contributor to the team. It's not like he's a good player being benched, he's a good player that gets knocked off the puck way too easily.

Send him down, let him play a ton of minutes, and get him to pack on some pounds and muscle. Let him come back next season and play him full time.

He was scratched for the 3rd period last game and now a full game tonight. He's not quite there yet, not the end of the world if he gets sent down to prepare for next season.

Yes maybe guys like myself overreact about Baertschi, but that's because we finally have a great prospect and I feel they shouldn't be too confined. Nowadays, a lot of good draft picks are let loose and turn out to be great players. I'm sure Hartley is going to have a good chat with him but our lack of success the previous years is having me doubt our player management.

You have to remember that when he's on the Flames, he isn't just playing with them. He's practicing and training with them too. We only get to see about 1/3 of the "work" he actually does with the Flames. If the issue is putting on mass and strength, having an extra 10 minutes of game time in Abbotsford isn't going to be the difference maker.

Make no mistake about it. If the Flames win this game, it'll be a massive statement game that they're on the right track. With the way Iggy's playing, it wouldn't surprise me if they squeaked out a win tonight.

Its OK with me if his milestone goes down in the record books in a loss to us. He can have his one point as long as our guys get enough to win.

It would be even more awesome if nobody on the Ducks got any though.
