If Hartely wants the biggest team vs the Ducks, not hard to figure that will be his plan for the entire weekend.

I have no problems sitting Sven. We are winning and we are scoring goals right now. Also it's his first year.

haha. Also i can't recall many coaches saying why a player is being benched. I guess Hartley knew that some heat was coming.

Wonder what the lines would be if Backs is inserted in the lineup this upcoming week.

Would be sweet if Backlund, Baertschi, and McGrattan were a line.

Assuming this has been mentioned, if not,

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions Bob Hartley says he intends to chat with Baertschi this afternoon. About "why he is going to be a great NHL player". #Flames hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Should be interesting to see how he responds.

Personally I have no issue with the handling of Baertschi. Sure I'd like to see him play more but that's just because he's an exciting player. It seems like he has a great attitude and work ethic so I doubt being scratched once in a while and having to fight for minutes is going to bust him. He is just a rookie after all. If this team had a lack of skill players and had trouble scoring then I'd say force him into the top 6 and let him sink or swim but that is clearly not the case. Also he's had a concussion / neck injury and a hip injury in the last few months. Why not bring him on slowly to make sure he's ready for the grind of a full season?

Also GFG!... I'll say 4-2 Flames. Tanguay, Wideman, Stempniak and Iggy with an empty netter.

Baertshi isn't performing how some of us may have hoped but he is still showing flashes of brilliance. Against the ducks I think this is a good scratch. Bear isn't going to win any physical battles. When we play a weak defense team like Edmonton or Columbus that is when we should give him minutes and powerplay time. As we say last year, as soon as he has his confidence he can be a really impactful player. I like this move by Hartley, and I really like how he is going to talk to him too. I think he is handling the situation properly.

Flames as Underdog visitors this season - 2 wins in 7 games.
Ducks as Favored home team this season - 5 wins in 7 games. (not counting shootout wins)

Game will most likely be under 5.5 goals.

Hoping for a Flames Shutout Upset win tonight. 1-0.

Count me in for this.

-McGrattan stands in front of the net.

-Baertschi, Backlund, Brodie and either Wideman/Smith play keepaway.

-McGrattan issues death threats to anyone who even fogs up their visors.

Flames win 5-3. Selanne with 2, but Iggy 1 ups him with 2 goals, an assist and a fight

Hartley on benching Baertschi: "It's not the first time a young kid is getting scratched, and it won't be the last time."
I was one of the posters who led the charge the first time it was rumored that Sven would sit (I started the thread saying it was ridiculous). This time, I'm in full agreement. Sven played poorly on Wednesday and looks a little lost.

I'll admit to maybe being wrong the first time, and I'll trust the judgment of those who know better about roster decisions in the future.

I trust Hartley with our young players

He regularly benched Tanguay as a rookie in Colorado along with others, he seemed to turn out fine. I never watched Atlanta so don't know what he accomplished with their players

I'm fine with the Baertchi benching (ok not really) but honestly at this point just send him down. He will gain more from playing top minutes with the Heat than 8 minutes or less with the Flames.

I don't understand the desire Hartley has to sit him but I'm sure he has his reasons. That said Baertchi not playing at all does his development no good whatsoever. Send him down.

Well he did coach Kovalchuk when he was pretty young and he's one of the best in the league now.
