http://www.polygon.com/game/simcity-...update_3815485

IGN article on the front page:
SimCity Burning
the Diablo 3 launch was bad, but at least you could still usually get in and play after a few delays. and when you couldn't, there would be a server outage notice right at the login screen advising you exactly what was going on. the guys at Maxis though seem to have zero clue of what's going on, the fixes they've tried to implement so far have ranged from "didn't work" to "made things worse"
SimCity will be the benchmark in the future of just how bad a game launch can be, it's pretty much the worst case scenario. i really hope that IGN article is correct and developers take this as a warning to not make their games online only

It's still pretty debatable as to whether this is worse than A:CM last month. Thank god Ni No Kuni came in from Amazon last night, I can ignore SimCity's problems for (hopefully) the entire duration of their downtime.

Gamespot review: 5.0
http://www.gamespot.com/simcity/revi...yReview&page=2
the 2nd largest game review site next to IGN, never gives anything lower than a 7 to any big publisher title, and has been caught in the past being bought off by publishers for higher ratings. to get a 5.0 (mediocre) from them is pretty damning

There is no way that the two are comparable. SimCity will be eventually playable and the game itself is exactly what they promoted it to be. A:CM however, is a totally different "game" then what they marketed/presented as gameplay. It is a rushed, unfinished and outdated mess. A:CM will always be an alpha disguised as a AAA title no matter how many patches Gearbox rolls out. Server issues can be corrected, poorly made games cannot.

I'm still holding out hope that some intrepid person/group will release a usermod that makes the game playable... :sigh:

I know many people haven't been able to play, but can you make culdesacs in this game? it seems weird to me, having a dead end road in a residential area, and having no houses circle the end.
They really want you to use grids.

Could have a road go to a point, and hook up a circle road at the end....kinda the same, but probably not exactly what you are looking for.
It doesn't look like many buildings, if any, can upgrade nicely into a curved space, so grids are really the only way to go if you want to maximize space.

Just wanted to remind everyone- reboot your game (and machine if required)...
I wasn't able to play yesterday until kerplunk reminded me of the number one rule when troubleshooting- then afterwards, it worked a bit.

ya any building you place or any residential/commercial towers that go up are defined by a strict box no matter where it's placed. so if they're on a curved road, when you zoom into where the road and building area meet it's really ugly

Not to have gallows sensibilities, but it will be interesting to follow the news over the next few weeks to see who loses their job.

Probably anyone from Maxis who publicly complained about EA.

The people who should be fired are the ones who would be doing the firing.

I have today off from work so I have been playing since I woke up, despite the issues I am enjoying the game. Still learning, and I plan to restart my city/region once more but the game is enjoyable and should become more so when the work the kinks out.

So I haven't purchased this game but I really wanna play it. Should I wait a little longer until all the kinks are ironed out?

I don't think there's a benefit to jumping into the pool, I'd wait and see if they do a "Holy frack we're sooooo sorry discount"

Things appear to be settling down a bit. I was able to play a few hours uninterrupted yesterday. I had an issue when the help button came up on the right asking me if I wanted to learn how to claim another town, and then stuck at the new city's load screen. Other than that I had fun.

I really enjoy the game when I can get on. Last night I logged on between 1030-11 thinking I'd be getting my usual 30 minutes of game play and it would crash. Get up to get some water and it's 410. Whoops!
What I'm finding frustrating now when I can get on is that it's usually a different server which mean I have to start from scratch every time. Giving me some quality time to learn the game but getting a bit annoying now.
Is there a way to build overpasses or is it just street lights?

I can't deny that after all of this drama, I was still pretty excited to pull this out of the mail today...
The shipping address it came from was ironically EA Customer Service...
