Yeah, $100 for the phone, work pays for the plan so I don't really care about that side of things. We are moving away from Blackberrys and they are offering deals for people to purchase their own phones. Choices are iPhones and the S3 so far. Not keen on getting an iPhone though. Was hoping the Nexus 4 would pop up but no such luck yet.

Is the SIII still worth getting? Have a chance to grab a new one at $100 through work.

Yeah, mine's totally FUBAR'D. I can get it repaired for $300, but that hardly seems worth it.

The S3 is still the best phone out there, so yeah, if you can get one for $100 I'd jump on it.

How isn't it the best phone out there right now? I know there are phones with quad core processors, more RAM, etc, etc....but the S3 still does everything you want a phone to do, plus it is LTE.

haha so the things other phones do better doesn't matter, but the LTE does?
I think the Nexus 4 is better, you don't, that's totally fine. But let's not suggest it isn't debatable. The phrase "How isn't it the best phone out there" is silly.

I think the stock Nexus 4 is the superior phone for sure. Part of that is the size of the S3, which I use on a daily basis, is unnecessarily excessive, but the majority is due to not having a massively bloated OS as the default.
Once rooted and flashed, a S3 comes a lot closer, that's for sure.

Honestly, I went from a 4" device to the S3, and I haven't noticed a problem at all with the size.
But if you look at all the things you want from a phone, the S3 gives it to you. Sure, if you root/flash it, which I did....suddenly it is that much better, but I don't think the Nexus 4 is such a better phone, nor any of the other 'quad-core' phones coming out.
They are all fast, and most of them do LTE. What more do you want? Everything else is personal preference.

Okay, and I obviously think the Nexus 4 is number one and the S3 isn't. Don't know why you didn't like that, since you seem to understand it's personal preference.
I'm not a guy that roots phones, wouldn't even know where to begin but I can't imagine going to that ugly overlay Samsung puts over Android. I've used an S3 on several occasions and I much prefer pure android.
Whatever, personal choice, right?

With the hardware all now running things without issue, it does come to software and usability.
Have a Note II currently, and never liked the Samsung interface on previous S2 a couple years ago. The on screen menu on the Stock Note 2 takes up so much of the lower phone, so I looked for options without rooting.
Easy fix, Nova Launcher. So much more customizeable, and minimalist, very close to stock andriod IMO in look and feel, but the ability to tweak some of those little things like grid size, resizing widgets and a lot of little things that you can play with, not available with Touchwiz or pure stock Android. Speed is adjustable, and better too.
So,outside of my shaw email on the stock app (which I could change), and things such as the options menu, there's very little that I actually am exposed to Samsung-wise...3rd party SMS, Chrome Browser. Gmail App. Samsung guts and features (like Multiview) are still there behind the scenes and easily accessible.
If (ok, when) I switch to the next phone, it will be about the physical specs as always, but with the higher end phones all able to run smoothly now, its about the other things that software tweaks can't over come. That's camera, and physical dimensions, premium feel and screen resoultion. Update on the Nexus devices as well, especially if they move to whatever 5.0 software will be called later this year, is a factor.
The Note 2 is great phone, and can deal with the size as I have. The pen is handy more then I would think, and things like Multiview are awesome when required, and its a beast of a phone as far as specs. But, still not the most mobile of devices and the plastic-ness isn't my cup of tea. However, in winter, not really that mobile myself too much...easy to use on the train to and from work. Plus winter means always having a jacket pocket to throw it in to. But come summer, and when out and about more, a smaller form factor would be better.
Anyways, those not happy with the stock software experience/appearance, try a non-stock launcher like Nova. Makes a huge difference.

Nova is great. I use it on my S3 now as well.
I just think the phones are all really comparable, even if the specs are different. There really is no clear winner, but the S3 has dominated for a while now in terms of units sold.

I actually can't believe how fast I got used to the size, I forget its even big until I'm holding someone's iPhone 4 or something. I think its pretty much reached its limit to how big a phone should be, any larger and its too much. But I don't find the size to be a distraction or anything.
EDIT: Upon re-reading my post, there's a healthy dose of "that's what she said" potential in there

Cellular conversations in general are fodder for "that's what she said".
Not sure if it's a good sign or not that I've managed to not use that joke up until this point.

Anyone used their Wind compatible S3 in Europe? I believe it will as they advertise Euro roaming but I wanted confirmation if possible from someone who's actually done it.

A sneak peak at the future S5 prototype.
They just need to start making bigger pockets, and sturdier belts so it doesn't pull your pants down. Comes with a revolutionary antenna that bends!

Just received the extended battery kit. It was a little steep ($60 all in) but for me the huge boost in battery life is worth it. Anyone looking to get better battery life should look at this as an option.
Yesterday, I had an uptime of 17.5 hours, 2 hours screen on time, LTE/GPS on and I was at 56%. Keep in mind I am running a custom Touchwiz ROM.
