Finally got a game going for the first time lasting more than 30 minutes and same thing happened playing about the same amount of time. I guess it's just an excuse to learn the game. Frustrating either way!

This game is virtually unplayable right now. All I want to do is play on my own - single player - so I can get a better feel for the game... and I can't even do that.

I have some free time tomorrow, so I'll be logging on and requesting a refund...
But I came across this: http://techreviewsandhelp.com/2013/0...asked-for-one/
Hopefully this is just a one-off. I will get my refund.

And I also came across this:

What is your refund policy for PC digital downloads?
Unfortunately, EA does not offer refunds on any products downloaded through Origin. EA reserves the right, however, to offer refunds under exceptional circumstances at its sole discretion.
|
You can REQUEST, but it's up to them to decide to give you a refund or not. This is for people that bought digitally through Origin.
If they don't give me a refund, then it's a simple call to Master Card, I hope.

I got a refund last night without much hassle. I googled origin help, then talked to a online agent. It took 3 hours to get one so I just played xbox and watched tv while I waited.

Glad to read this. Mind if you expand in this a little? Did you buy online from Origin? What did you tell them when they asked? Etc...

What the hell?!? I've been playing on a single player map the last couple days to find out it's no longer there when I logged in right now. Where did it go? What a waste of time!

I had meant to mention this a couple days ago but this article popped up on PC Gamer in which an EA rep said they were offering refunds for SimCity.
Quote:
Forum threads filled with complaints popped up like a line of apartment blocks, and in one such thread, Origin Global Community Manager Marcel Hatam says refund requests are available for those affected by launch problems.
“If you regrettably feel that we let you down, you can of course request a refund for your order at http://help.origin.com/contact-us, though we’re currently still in the process of resolving this issue,” he writes.

sorry for likely a dumb question at this stage of hte thread, but can if i got this game, could i not play it in single player mode (ie. no other human cities on my map except mine)?
Like i understand you must always be online to play, but can i not enjoy "single player"?

Yes, as Nehkara says earlier in this thread just start your own private region.

Yes you can, but you still have to connect to a server and you are still always online.
There is an option to play on a private or public map. If you set it to private, you are the only one in there unless you invite someone else.
I tried to get on this morning. 20 minute wait to get into NA West 1. EA says just log into a different server if one is busy...of course you can't get any of your save games if you log into a different server. So you are stuck logging into the server you started in.
I tried logging into a different server anyway and it wouldn't let me claim a plot so I gave up. It shouldn't be like this. I understand where you guys are coming from now.

There are reports of Origin automatically selecting a different server for you because it's crazy like that. Maybe double check?

I've had trouble finding a concrete answer and I don't know much about integrated graphics, would Intel HD 4000 graphics be enough for this? From what I've found it sounds like maybe... I know it's not ideal but that's what it's stuck with.

Man this just sucks, all the enthusiasm and excitement in this and the Region thread before the game was released, and now people are getting frustrated and getting refunds. I get it, i'm pretty disappointed in the crappiness of the servers, the disconnects, the lost saves, etc.
I do however really enjoy the game. Looking forward to spending some more time on it once it stabilizes.
Sorry to all who are getting refunds, the whole thing just sucks.

This is pretty much my sentiment in a nutshell.
On the bright side, the MechWarrior:Online patch this week was great, and Ni No Kuni arrives from Amazon today.
I'll probably wait til at least the weekend to try SimCity out again.

Does anyone know if the water table replenishes at all?
I would hope it does, otherwise a city/region basically has a shelf life.

I don't think so, you would need to import. Same thing if you run out of coal, you have to import.

I'm actually pretty sure it does. I was watching my water treatment plant pretty closely yesterday, and occasionally the supply listing would jump upwards.
Then again, it could be a bug :/
