BTW: my buddy dropped a bomb on me today. Sounds like he might be canceling the ventrilo server. Says he's using a new thing called "Raidcall." Supposed to be free and easy to use. I have yet to look at it.
Until he does cancel, and I'll let you guys know when, it'll still be up. Sorry.
And yah, I don't feel like paying for a vent if no one is gonna use it. I didn't see too many people logging into it.

Since Origin lacks a group chat function, at the very least it would be great to have something even if it's instant messaging based. If anything I would prefer that. Makes it easy for everybody to go back and look/see what's been going on while they're away.
Any suggestions on this part?

With regions in the mix, the game has become that much more complex- and no one has quite mastered it yet.
Quick question- can you play "offline" in a region where you can control all the cities? Might be fun if I had a city or two and my fiancee has one.
|
ya you can start a region (private) and just claim all the cities.

I am wondering, can one create a city with only residential, and have another city for industrial, one for commercial...does RCI demand change based on other cities and their respective content?

i wish game reviewers had to review SimCity based on what players are experiencing now, not by getting their advance copy and being able to play offline. it's BS that a game with so many launch issues is still able to pull review scores of 8's and 9's

good question.
My guess is you would have to have a (or multiple) train station/bus terminal/ferry terminal to make this happen.

PC Gamer and IGN have deliberately held off posting their reviews until they could play the game like everyone else. It only makes sense considering always online DRM is a huge portion of the game.
As for the Vent issue you guys have had pop up, (I am going to assume that since you're all PC gamers that you have Steam) why don't you try a multi-user chat through Steam? That allows both text and voice communication but I am unsure the number of users it supports per instance. It's free so it could be worth a shot.

Well to be fair, there are only 9 professional reviews in. The rest are likely waiting for everything to die down.
And IMO, the game (once the servers are working) is easily an 8.
Error 37 didn't last forever, neither will this.

I don't look at these issues as game problems. I think of it as closer to distribution problems, similar to companies running out of stock in the earlier years. Still unacceptable, but I wouldn't punish the actual rating of the gameplay as a result of it.

Honestly reviewing a game based on server problems that will probably be fixed in a week is goofy. I can see doing what Polygon did, temporarily lowering their score because of the issues or only lowering it slightly.
I got some time to play the game yesterday when I found a server that was working properly and I had a blast.

i have no problem with review sites readjusting their scores once everything is working, but EA (along with Blizzard and any other company releasing an online only game) should feel some kind of negative consequence for continually failing to properly prepare for a big launch. but since they already have all their money from people who pre-ordered or bought at launch and game reviewers are so forgiving for technical issues, there's really no reason for them to care about the multitude of issues people are having
being slapped with bad reviews at launch until they fix the required online components might make them put a little effort into the next game they make

Not sure if it generates any income, but it does increase the tech level of the region. My one town has only basic schools, but is at tech level 3 because of the tower.

ya he managed to screw over my city quite a bit, plus his tower itself lowers the land value around it significantly. i ended up bulldozing it because i couldn't see any payoff

Yeah from what I've read the payoff seems to just be chaos, if you want it
Another question: Zoning for commecrial, when you making high end shops, and they're saying we need workers or we need shoppers
Are the workers suppose to come from low class houses? and the shoppers from high class?
