This team does one thing consistently, get our hopes up then destroys them year after year in embarrassing fashion. I really hope we make the playoffs but I'm definitely not getting too excited. We'll probably go on a winning streak, eek into the 7th or 8th spot and have 7 or 8 games left to go which is where we have trouble, this team thrives on low expectations and crumbles when hopes are high. It's like we need to have a chip on our shoulders to make it,
Maybe Mcgrattan and Hartley can give us the proper kind of confidence that never lets us think it's going to be easy because it never is. Why anyone on the Flames ever thinks we have a gimme game is beyond me, there will never be an easy game this year yet they some how forget this over and over.

This is not a playoff team, the sooner everyone accepts this, the better off we will all be. We can't move on until everyone understands this, including Flames management. We can't let every win here and there cloud this fact, that's what got them in this mess in the first place.

Watching the flames must suck for you. I'm still having fun, any hope of playoffs makes watching the games 100x more fun.
Without purpose there is no point in watching.

So we win a game and all of a sudden we're a playoff team. Nothing would make me happier than us making the playoffs, but realisticly we probably won't. It seems like this team is not good enough to compete like they did last night against the Canadian women's diving team on a regurlar basis. Play a couple great games and get everyone's hopes up, then #### the bed royally and have all their fans on suicide watch.

This is exactly how I feel it's been exasperating cheering for this team, I've switched from cheering for wins to make the playoffs to hoping for losses so we can actually draft well about 5 times this season. I used to be happy with a 9th place finish because I would take a shot at the playoffs and meaningful games in March/April over a tank job every time, but three years of this now is wearing on me. It's like this team is caught in limbo.

I would say watching the young guys develop would be purpose enough. Brodie, Baertschi and Backlund are really the only three I care to watch. Kind of sad for a team that has missed the playoffs for 3 straight years that we only have 3 young players with impact potential...

I meant "we" as in Flames fans in general.
And yeah, my perspective right now does make it tough to be a fan of this team, but that's what years of predictable disappointment will do to a person. Been a fan for 25 years, this is easily the most frustrating stretch for me personally, including the seven straight years out of the playoffs.
It's sad that at the start of the last few years, I was able to almost precisely call where the Flames would finish, and even worse, how they would manage to do it. Come crunch time, they simply aren't good enough. They've proven this time and time again, and I've just kind of given up letting them lure me into a false sense of security.
I still enjoy watching the games, I'm especially engaged when guys like Backlund, Baertschi and Brodie are getting a chance to really show what they can do. The future is what excites me these days, which is why I really am hoping for a high pick this year, this is the season to do it in, 48 games whips by in the blink of an eye in the grand scheme of things.

I'm not one of the guys who is sold in iggy retiring here. The Flames positioning and iginlas personal choices will decide that. However I absolutely love watching him play well and score goals. Also I enjoy Stajans career resurrection. I like watching Cammy play well, and I think Hartley has finally found some great combinations. Iggy-Cervenka-Hudler Tanguay-Cammy-Baertschi Stempniak-Stajan-Glenx all looked great.
I cheer for the guy up and coming, but it's great to see us being able to roll and cheer for 3 solid lines.
Like you however I am definitely looking forward to Backlunds return. That and of course kipper

Sorry, I was just bugging you. I understand the passion and frustration of being a Flames fan. I know you'd rather cheer for wins than losses, but the wins just don't come often enough
I guess I've just tempered/lowered my expectations given that no canadian team has won a cup in 20 years. Over 1/3 of the league has never won a cup to date. The Flames could really use more 2nd round playoff series though, I agree there.
I do want the Flames to have more success than they've shown, but I'm not losing sleep over it. The high pick mentality doesn't mean much to me either, the best the Flames have done in their entire history with a top 10 pick was Cory Stillman.

Over a thousand games, consistent 25-30 goal scorer, 50 - 80 point player.
That's a pretty good pick.

He was definitely a good pick. 22 drafts ago though.

I remember Brent complaining the whole time that the team was doing things wrong during the time they were winning.
If i remember correctly, i think near the end of that winning stretch of hockey they had a loss and Brent said that even though they lost, it was their best game as a team so far and thats the way he wanted them playing.

Jan 1st, 2010 the Flames were in 5th place with 51 points, 1 point back of Colorado for 3rd.
Jan 11th they were in 3rd place with 57 points and 6-3-1 in the past 10.
From Jan 11 to Jan 27th, the Flames gained a total of 1 point, including 1-8-1 in the past 10. 9th place with 58 points.
Basically the timeframe when the wheels fell off and Phaneuf was shipped out.

Flames are three games out of the division lead. I'd say we become sellers if we fall twelve points out of the division race.

By that standard St. Louis, Detroit, and Nashville (to say nothing of Columbas) should all be sellers right now.
