How many days in the last three years has Calgary spent in a playoff spot?

I think we were there for like what...2 days last season. I know we were not in a spot at the end though.

If they're going to make the playoffs they're going to have start getting on a winning streak

I think the cool thing for fans to do now, is come up with a catchy slogan for losing, based on a player they want to see drafted...and then cheer for losses.
I blame the Oilers for this mentality

My point being that needing to win every game in hand in order to be hovering around 8th is the same thing that has been happening multiple times every season and yet they never break through and establish themselves in a playoff spot.
There's nothing wrong at all with being hopeful but to rip on posters for being negative when their argument is perfectly valid and supported by three years of recent history is unfair.

How am I ripping on anyone? I was responding to a poster that was ripping on someone for being hopeful.
We are 4 points from the basement and 4 points from 4th. Hardly a time to give up.

I completely agree. I'm not trying to defend his Murray Edwards statement but rather the fact it seems like there is a continuing trend where people who think the Flames are closer to the weak sisters of the league as opposed to one of the stronger playoff teams get ripped for being pessimistic about the team.

Believe me, I feel the same way about the way the pessimistic group has to infiltrate every thread. Sometimes you just wanna have some hope and cheer for the team.

I know I am going to get flamed for this, but statistically there is not a whole lot of difference between 4 and 14 in the west this year.
Really if you consider most games to be a coin flip between teams like Calgary, Minnesota etc, we are one lost coin flip from being tied with teams like Minnesota or San Jose.
This team NEEDS to get on a 5 game winning streak and then sustain it with a better than average win percentage. And this team has shown they can do it (I suppose just as well as not being able to do it).
Momentum in hockey is a funny thing... once a team gets going they can ride it for a while. Jarome is playing better, Kipper is about to return...
Maybe it is not all doom and gloom.

I think in my head I had thrown this year away, due to the lockout. Then they settled and I was happy but with the way the Flames are playing and with 28 or so games left, I kind of hope we tank and get a top five pick. I love the Flames but know realistically this isnt our year so why not throw away a short year to be better for years to come.

So from the posts I gather that we are in the "win now" mode again and should trade future assests to be a contender this year. How refreshing, I think it has been a couple of games since the last mood shift!
