Wow, this game really looks more and more like SimCiv...I'm okay with it too.
if you really want a combination of SimCity and Civ, you should check out Anno 2070. bit of a learning curve, but once you get into it it's just as addicting as those games
When you upgrade from one road to the next, are you paying the difference in cost or just extra?
Also, from what I've seen most beta testers use, skipping over both the dirt and low density roads and head straight for a medium density road to save time.

You are paying the difference in cost IIRC.
About the beta, it was tuned differently than the full version.
Apparently roads in the full game will be more expensive and the game overall will be more difficult. Due to this I am planning to start with dirt roads and Medium Avenues as they suggest, and upgrade from there.

So I got an email notification last night from Amazon.com telling me that my pre-order was inadvertently cancelled and that due to technical reasons they couldn't reverse their mistake. Since the CAGROCKS promotional code is no longer valid I gave them a quick call and in the end they provided a $15 credit to balance the lost promotional code and an additional $5 credit for inconveniencing me.
33% off a big name title that isn't even released yet? This is why Amazon.com is awesome

I'm floored with how small the maps are. I'm gonna have to try my best to embrace the idea of regionalism I guess.

It is kind of different in a way too though. There is a lot more happening in your city now, a lot more to do and to manage, has a much more personal feeling to it. I like it.
I am totally psyched for larger maps in the future though, hopefully sooner rather than later.

From watching some of the gameplay videos I'm looking forward to growing my city at a slower pace. In the betas we've always had a time limit. Everyone is rushing to build huge cities in that time limit. Slowing down and deliberately planning the city out block by block will take longer and yield better results when it's time to expand and become a large city.
I always felt watching the RCI Meter that I really needed to expand that particular zone. But the city will run fine at a slower pace through deliberate planning.
Is it known how big of a download this game will be?
