If that Sportsnet article is right, then Jay Feaster should immediately be fired. That's amateur level stuff.

Radulov was an RFA, same situation that ROR is in with Colorado
he is technically their property so wouldn't need to pass
if the article is true, than it would only be teams that offer sheet and sign that need to, a rule that if true I think the NHL will change sooner rather than later

Feaster truly is a moron. We didn't even have enough cap space for ROR anyways.. nevermind this..

No he wasn't. Radulov had a valid contract with the Preds but refused to report. Completely different than signing a free agent.

I can't believe that some posters think that article is true. O Reilly is a RFA not a UFA. I can't believe that sportsnet chief editor allowed that article to be published.

Actually, Radulov was a suspended player. He had a valid contract with the Predators that he violated to jump to Russia.

Article is bunk, Chris Johnson needs to get a reliable source or read the CBA.
Summary of changes in the new CBA from NHLPA website:
http://cdn.agilitycms.com/nhlpacom/P...ms-1-10-13.pdf
Quote:
AllPlayersonaClub’sReserveList and Restricted Free Agent List will be exempt from the application of CBA 13.23 Waivers in the case of a mid -season signing.
|
13.23 states:
Quote:
In the event a professional or former professional Player plays in a league outside North America after the start of the NHL Regular Season, other than on Loan from his Club, he may thereafter play in the NHL during that Playing Season (including Playoffs) only if he has first either cleared or been obtained via Waivers. For the balance of the Playing Season, any such Player who has been obtained via Waivers may be Traded or Loaned only after again clearing Waivers or through Waiver claim.

O'Reilly doesn't have to go through waivers

It's mind blowing. Awful "journalism".
Also, cap-wise the Flames were more than fine.
Pro-rated salary cap available to the Flames today? 7.989m. We have more than enough space.

Come on man, Feaster's a lawyer. You can question his hockey IQ, but legal contract stuff should be his forte. So not one single lawyer in either side thought of this until it was pointed out by former NHL players on a 2nd rate sports channel? I find that pretty hard to believe.

Do you really think that if O Reilly had become a flame that Feaster would have stood pat?
Cammi was probably gone once Backlund was back. I could see a trade where he trades Cammi for a 3rd line cheap grinder.

The only amateur level of stuff is once again, Sportsnet.
What a joke of a company top to bottom. Simple fact checking would have nulled this entire article. The fact they let it go is embarrassing to them.
Just a joke of an organization.

It's not clear that this would apply in the case of the Flames, as O'Reilly is not on their RFA list. The reference is to the particular club. In other words the exemption applies to Colorado - not clear whether it applies to Calgary.

@mc79hockey O'Reilly was not on Flames reserve list, though. As it was explained to me, he was exempt from COL waivers but not others.
