I don't really understand why he isn't in the NHL right now.

IIRC, he planned to change his jersey to #90 since Duchene already has 9. Wonder if he will still change it if he lands here.

No, O'Reilly led the league in takeaways last year. If your team sucks you're not going to have a good +/-. O'Reilly is an elite defensive forward with some good offensive abilities, that is a very rare commodity and something that would fill a huge need for the flames.

Didn't know that. This makes me more excited that we are going to get a high quality center - who is young to boot.

I'd say O'Rielly immediately becomes the most valuable asset in the organization.
You take that for a pick between 10-16 any day, in my opinion.
Without ROR, I think the Flames pick 8-10, which gets you a player like Curtis Lazar. You hope Lazar becomes as good as ROR.

Drafting Stamkos first overall deserves as much praise as drafting Ryan Nugent-Hopkins first overall.
Tencer's comments are one of those typical media "it was true five years ago, it must still be true" beliefs. Much like how the media harped about how bad we were offensively when we were top ten in the league in goal scoring. In Tampa, Feaster's drafting left much to be desired. We are very early in his time in Calgary, but his picks for us lend far more optimism than his Tampa history would have suggested.

Not even a member of the Flames yet but apparently he already has the Jarome Iginla Syndrome. The more bickering there is he will keep getting older.

Because John Mitchell is having a nice year in the third spot (10 pts in 17 games). Had the Avs got O'Rielly back, I think it would've complicated things. That's just my guess/speculation.

I'm talking about next year when he will be making $6.5.

Not only that, but GM's don't like other GM's firing offer sheets at them poaching their players. You can bet Feaster and the Flames will suffer in the future because of this.
I also like how Matt Stajan also came into the league with seasons of 27 pts, 27 pts and then a career high of 55 points (although it was in his 5th year) just like O'Reilly.
People do understand when you sign a guy for 6.5 million that you have less money to spend on the rest of the team right? People are acting like the 6.5 is a fine price tag for a player with O'Reilly's status.
I guess time will tell what kind of player Ryan O'Reilly really is, but I have no doubt in my mind that the Avs aren't going to match, they'll take our draft picks and run, washing their hands of this whole O'Reilly mess.

It really sounds like O'Reilly camp and Av's camp do not like each other and i doubt it can be repaired. Do they want that nto spill over into the dressing room?
Also if they give in, Duchene and Landeskog have a huge leg up on the av's in their next negotiation.
|
Not sure Avs players will be impressed if management just keep O'Reilly twisting in the wind. This is a done deal. He's gone and everyone knows it. Not in anyone's interest trying to score petty little points right now.
For sure re: Duchene and Landeskog.

Very good point. If he likes it here, he could very well sign a longer extension at a lower hit before he's an RFA. He is likely well aware the high salary next year is simply the price the flames need to pay to pry him out of Col.

O'Reilly has more playoff experience than Bouwmeester, for what its worth.

Not that there's much of a decision to be made, but I love that he turned the Canucks' offer down. Obviously it was a no-brainer to choose the Flames with their centre situation, but I love it.
