Not if they're trying to win the Cup in the next two years - which they are. Bergeron is a better all-around player right now than Iginla. He can play top-two centre, and/or check top opposing lines. And he's 27.

The day after Boston made that trade they would be a worse team.

My hunch is that Feaster didn't and won't see this year as one in transition. It all depends on whether Iginla gets re-signed, but Feaster hired Hartley and spent money on Wideman and Hudler. I bet Feaster thinks that "building for the future" just means not mortgaging the future for rental players. If Feaster has a chance to trade a first round pick for a 27 or 28 year old who can help now and have a few years on his contract, you can bet he'll consider doing it, especially if he re-signs Iginla.

I hate this argument and I disagree with it. It's no different than arguing Sutter didn't waste a 2nd round pick by trading away a 2nd round pick for garbage and "recouping" the pick by trading down in the draft. Every year, Sutter supposedly traded down to pick the guy he wanted all along too.

Moves should generally be viewed on a move by move basis with an awareness of the overall picture. Trading away 2nd round picks with the idea that you can always trade down in the 1st round to pick up an extra 2nd is not "balanced spending" (as opposed to deficit spending).

Let's not forget that Feaster is a guy with a history of trading draft picks himself. Don't think for a second Feaster is all that reluctant to trade away draft picks. Apparently, Weisbrod and Feaster considered trading last year's 1st until Weisbrod got a chance to see Jankowski play. Had Weisbrod not seen Jankowski play, the Flames might have traded away last year's 1st, along with last year's 2nd.

Only problem with shipping out a prospect for a roster player is we're overloaded with forwards. We have WAY too much depth on LW & I think Cammy is the only LW we could move. He just doesn't seem to slot in nicely anywhere in the lineup. Cammalleri for Connolly & a 2nd round pick would make the basis for a decent trade. His contract is bad, but he still contributes & is the kind of 'name' player that Toronto likes to acquire. He's enough of a player that T.O. might give up promising defender Jake Gardiner, who has recovered from concussion issues and is putting up solid numbers in the A.

It's been a few years since our latest disastrous blockbuster with Toronto, so why not have another go:

To Toronto: Mike Cammalleri, Blake Comeau, Chris Butler
To Calgary: Tim Connolly, Jake Gardiner & a 2nd round pick

It balances the forward roster, recoups us a 2nd rounder & nets us a solid prospect D-man who has put in 1 really solid NHL season.

Nsh fans also talking about adding Cammy since they desperately need some scoring but I don't think they have anything we need honestly.

Colin Wilson would look great in a Flames uniform. Good young centre on $2mill a year for the next few years. Paul Gaustad is a huge centre & one of the best faceoff guys in the league. I would take either of those guys for Cammy.

I don't think we would be getting either of them or Craig Smith or Fisher (Underwood). If we wanted a center they would be sending Legwand which isn't optimal since hes getting a bit old or a defense prospect like Blum.

Gaustad for 3.25 million for the next year years is a scary proposition IMO. I know we need what he brings but yikes.

Nashville's current group of prospects is surprisingly bad. I don't think they are a good partner at all unless their 1st rounder is in play.

Can't imagine that TO would give up Gardiner at all let alone for an overpaid Cammy and two useless plugs.

Getting a 2nd for Cammy with his deal might be the best we can hope for at this point.

The trouble we will have with trading Cammy is the $6m cap hit next year and the lower cap ceiling. Suppose that TML could amnesty buy out Komisarek and maybe Liles as they are being scratched which gives them flexibility. But they have to give a bunch new deals (Kadri, Bozak, Gunnarson, Franson) which eats into their cap space. Plus they would have lots of $ tied into their wings. May have to take a contract with term left on it to make a deal happen.

I bet the Bruins would do it, they are one of the few teams with an eye toward this season and the future. Given that they would probably have a 50/50 chance of getting one of Jones/McKinnon/Barkov or Druin I imagine they say yes to that trade.
