I think that argument could have been put to rest three years ago. Ovi is a joke. Imagine paying a guy like him all of that money to watch him coast around. Pathetic.

So?

He's in Sochi on talent alone. What he does in the NHL from now until then won't mean a thing to the Russians.

He IMO is a classical case of what happens when guys get the big $$$.

Hasnt been the same guy since the year after he signed that obnoxious contract and much like Yashin, may never ever get the desire back.

I think he got too caught up in the rock star lifestyle and as a result he's lacking the drive he had when he initially came into the league and started scoring goals at a pace not seen since the 80's. Maybe he needs to spend some time away from the game to gain more of an appreciation of what it meant to be a superstar in the world's biggest hockey league. That said he doesn't seem like the only issue with that organization as it just seems like it's not working for a few players there for whatever reason.

Ever since Bodreau got canned, Ovechkin has not been the same guy, although he was slowing down then also, but this bad? no.

It takes a special person and player to continue to play with great passion after paydays like the top players receive.

Crosby personifies the kind of passion I speak of.

Always striving to be better and win.

Those Russians, so risky. If they aren't going back their homeland on a whim they might just start randomly sucking.

Here's hoping we continue to avoid taking them high in the draft.

It must have something to do with his new fiancee. If I came home to that everyday, man I wouldn't be the same either.... Haha

Ironically, I include Datsyuk in that small group of passionate superstars.

Datsyuk's passion can be summarised as pure compete. No alternative motivations out there. He is out competing his opponents on every shift.

One of the greatest all time NHL players in my mind.

Good, so they can lose in the first round

I hope Flames fans have a player to cheer for in the Olympics. Of course they will cheer for Canada.
