FBI HRT just finished a successful mission at that Alabama bunker site. Not sure how many units are available, but HRT is the US best train force for these types of situations so they could be on the way.

You can't call in the National Guard to do the job of civillian law enforcement I don't think Posse Comitatis will allow that without a presidential finding or a state of national emergency such as New Orleans.

According to Gawker:

5:26 PM EST: CNN reports that FAA has imposed flight restrictions over Big Bear.

5:31 PM EST: Big Bear-area police scanners have been disabled online to "ensure officer safety." There have been theories that Dorner, an ex-cop, had been listening in to police scanners to help him evade capture.

He'll be dead today. Or we feel really bad for the black person that owns the cabin because we all know how well the LAPD has been doing in their hunt:

I know their mandate is counterterrorism and obviously hostage rescue. Not sure if like you said they have the numbers or if its their mandate. Guaranteed they would need to maintain a minimum compliment in Quantico for rapid deployment should a terrorist situation arise.

I'm not sure of the rules or legalities in the US, however in Canada the CF is permitted to assist if need be.

There is always risk in a situation like this but you must mitigate what risk you can.

Again, what would you have the police do differently?
the reason why I stated that I would rather be the person being chased then the people that are chasing is that you are dealing with cops who are inexperienced in dealing with this kind of situation.

In a wooded area with the right type of weapons I could see a lot of opportunities to set up ambushes and then fade into the woods.

The biggest issue is based around the use of infrared from the air to detect body heat, but if I pack enough snow around me or build a fireblind out of snow that masks my body temperature I become invisible.

More Gawker:

6:05 PM EST: In a live press conference, LAPD Commander Andrew Smith says he can't confirm that the man holed up in the cabin is Dorner. He also said that the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is leading the charge in Angelus Oaks, with other police forces acting as support.

6:10 PM EST: Asked if he has a message for Dorner, Commander Smith says, "Enough is enough. It's time to turn yourself in."

6:15 PM EST: CBS reports that people have begun arriving at Angelus Oaks bearing signs reading, "Don't kill Dorner."

Its tougher in the States.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act

I think the only exception is under the insurrection act where there is an active insurrection and civilian authority can't handle it.

This wouldn't be defined as an insurrection and there is nothing in the constitution that allows for the turn over of Posse without I believe a finding by the President.

I doubt that he would suspend it with all of the gun nut sentiment going around right now.

Sorry CC, my question wasn't posed to you it was to Polak. The person being chased has the deck stacked in their favour for a short period of time, but that advantage quickly dwindles. Even if you are heavily armed and well supplied, you need to haul that around with you, maintain a constant state of hyper awareness and face multiple adversaries from multiple directions. The police are able to be resupplied and relieved, he's not.

Municipal police are typically inexperienced however certain federal and provincial teams are very capable in the bush. This guy has said he won't be taken alive so I expect he will try to dig in hand make a "last stand" or he will kill himself.

He would be invisible to heat sensing equipment, however the land shark gives the police another edge in tracking and detecting his whereabouts.

It doesn't seem like law enforcement is entirely confident that they have Dorner "pinned down" contrary to reports.

Yep. As unlikely as it was in the first place, any thoughts of taking him alive are long gone at this point.

He'll get the death penalty even if they do take him alive...

although it's preferable that some innocent person doesn't have to live with having killed Dorner, even if Dorner is a piece of trash that wants it.

And you can rent those cabins as well if you wish.

Watching CNN and the cabin where this fat bitch is barricaded looks like it is engulfed in flames. CNN reporting that a SWAT team has entered too.

I wonder if it's possible Dorner set this fire to attempt escape when he saw the SWAT team approaching?
