Kipper out for 2 weeks is probably the best thing that could have happened for this team future wise.

Now we get to see if Irving is capable of being a full time starter, backup , or AHL trash.

Flames ownership is going to see how many holes Kipper masked, if Irving can't play like Kipper.

Makes sense, we are down centremen, so we send down a guy who has been playing that position in the minors for a guy who's been converted to a winger.
Having Byron on wing ensures that Comeau is not in the top 9. I am fine with that.

Cammalleri will be back Wednesday as projected.

Did the flames actually just get even smaller?
Flames could also use some speed in the lineup without Backlund and Sven. Losing our two fastest players (outside of Glencross) has made this team look much slower. Byron brings that element, plus a lot of heart.

For centers we will likely roll some combination of Tanguay, Cervenka, Stajan, Jones, and Begin.

I would have preferred Horak but looks like the team will give some different farmhands a look over the next 4-6 weeks.

I guess we can expect to see both goalies play over the next 2 weeks:

Feaster says the back-up goaltending situation when Kiprusoff comes back has not been decided. Irving & MacDonald will battle for that job.

Fully agreed, also Baertschi and Cammy.

Doesn't change the fact that Kiprusoff gives them the best chance to win on a night to night basis, regardless of who else is in the line up

Just as I have resigned myself to losing every shootout we participate in, I now am also convinced that we will be a loser in the draft lottery.

I like Paul Byron, hope he has a great stint in this call up.

The next two weeks will show us what the goaltending future looks like. It will show us if Irving really belongs in the big show. It will show us if they Flames were right to make MacDonald an "organizational target" and if he could be a Flames future beyond July 1. And it will also show us how the team will respond to Kipper being out for an extended period of time and if they are able to survive without him.

Two weeks from now, we'll all have a clearer picture as to how the situation between the pipes really is.

I hoped for Horak rather than Byron, but I'm fine with him too. Good that Cammy's back tomorrow, hopefully Sven's ready to go soon as well.

So did Feaster waste another contract on Taylor just to have him up for 2 games?

Don't think he could have predicted that McDonald would become available for nothing or that Kipper's injury was this bad. I'd rather see him wasting contract spots to fill holes than trading assets. This was the right move by Feater. He's going with the best option available.

No kidding. It's not "wasting" roster spots. This is what those remaining roster spots are for (mid-season flexibility). What do peope want them for?

Like his positioning and puck tracking. He is a back up for a reason but what he does as a goalie, he does really well.

Interesting to me that Feaster stated MacDonald was on their "acquire by trade if possible" list, or whatever he called it.

I'm thinking that must be a pretty big list if a 33 year old borderline NHL back up goalie is on it.

I guess I'm in the minority when I think the Flames could have gone without MacDonald. Kipper is only two weeks away and Irving has been decent. Good enough to win against Columbus, they wouldn't have won the Canucks game no matter who was in net, and he only allowed 1 goal last night.

We're at game 10, not "mid-season", and the Flames have used two of their three remaining contracts on goalies. We just lost a lot of that "mid-season flexibility".

The Flames clearly did not have confidence that Taylor could step in and replace Irving if his game slipped. Mind you they didn't think Kiprusoff would be gone 2 weeks when they signed Taylor to an NHL contract.

It's not so much a 'list' as it is a 'database'.

Well then, I stand corrected.

That must be one big 'database'
