We should all be in the process of tempering or expectations of what Iginla will return in a trade.
If anything it's more an addition by subtraction move. The organization needs to turn a new leaf, can't do that with Iginla still on the roster.

They certainly are at worst - the same.
He simply isn't impacting games in a positive way right now.
Either way - time to move on from the #12 era.

Really?
Name me one season of the last 15 where if Iginla wasnt on the team, they would have been anything than worse.
Why is this season, all 10 games into it BTW, any different.
Its fair to question whether its time to move him or not and get started over, but to suggest his being gone for the balance wouldnt affect the team in a negative way is pure nonsense IMO.
i guess the knives are out no matter what though.

There is nothing more that I want to see than the Flames and Iginla win a cup. At this point, I believe the reality is this is mutually exclusive and that both parties have the best shot at winning a cup sooner if they part ways.
I feel as though the problem is both parties are being generous with each other and neither is being selfish.

You have to wonder if maybe Iggy has given Warrener the okay to work the media and public to pressure the owners into finally doing what's right.
We know Iggy cares about his legacy here, he doesn't want to come out and say "trade me, I want to play for a contender". Iggy doesn't want to be the bad guy. The owners don't want to be the bad guy cause they are afraid it'll hurt their bottom line.
Someone needs to step up and do the right thing.

He is 36, at some point you start running out of guarantees that "heŽll be fine" later on.

Sorry, but this is really naive.
GMs weren't born yesterday - they aren't going to evaluate Iginla's impact on their roster based on his point totals this season, on a team where he is the offensive leader.
If I am a GM, I am looking at a guy that is a big game war horse, a guy with a track record in the playoffs and in the Olympics. A guy that, in the right role, and when motivated (read: cup run), would be a massive addition to a deep team.
I would happily give up picks and a prospect to add what he brings to my cup-contending team.
To determine what a team would pay for Iginla, you have to consider what he would be on that team, not what he is on the Flames.

Having Iginla in the lineup does help the Flames. He draws the most defensive attention.
Does Hudler put up 8 points in 7 games if defences are keying on him? Maybe not
I still think the Flames should trade him to Boston or Pit at the deadline, he would be awesome to watch on those two teams

Iggy is my favourite player in the NHL and even i can tell that if they only trade him for a young 2nd line player they will be better off in the long run. That young player in 2 years will bring more to the team than Iggy will be able to. In 2 years Tanguay will probably have more value than Iggy.
The worst part if they keep him will more than likely be the contract that he is given. I dont have a hard time seeing him get a 4 year $24 million or a 5 year $25 million contract. Those last couple of years of him earning $5-$6 million will really erk fans. He will have no chance of playing up to that money. He will be untradeable to other teams even if he wants a chance to go win a cup with another team.

Fire the coach?
Trade for Conroy and Tanguay?
Sign Bertuzzi?
Trade for a goon?
How do we get this boat back on the rail road tracks?

If Hudler is the leader on this team that is a terrifying spot and this team is in much worse shape than even I thought.

The real question is whether the team will be worse without Iginla + the potential assets that he brought in if traded.

This is it exactly. Iginla obviously isn't the player he used to be, but he's still the player other teams key in on first and foremost. The trouble is Iginla isn't capable of beating those top pairing defenders anymore. Part of Selanne's success later in his career is he's not the guy defenses are keying in on. They focus on Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan, and Selanne get's the secondary defenders, who he makes look foolish. He still also gets lots of PP time. Ideally Iginla would flourish in this type of role as well. Unfortunately we don't get to decide who the opposing defenders focus their attention on, and until someone on our roster shows they deserve the attention (maybe Hudler) Iginla is going to keep looking bad out there. A trade is likely in everyone's best interest at this point.

You probably trade Iginla, Tanguay, Kiprusoff and a couple others....im not even suggesting otherwise if the owners have an appetite for it. Do that though and it will be years before the team even sniffs at a playoff spot..something the Oilers are living right now.
What I said, if you read, is that anyone who suggests that the team wont be worse without him is pretty much out to lunch, and that includes Warrener and any other talking head on the radio.
basing it on his body of work THIS season though, is ludicrous. the guy has always come out slow...just part of his makeup i guess. And the funny thing is that although he isnt scoring, for the most pat this season he has been playing very well away from the puck and still generating chances.

Does he draw the most defensive attention now? He used to, but i have not seen any teams this year putting a couple of guys on him. His puckhandling has gotten worse and 2nd pairing d-men do not have a hard time taking the puck from him.
I will say that Iggy in the line up does not make the team worse, that is just stupid.

I'm not sure about that. Teams seem to be happy to put their top lines out against Iginla's line, and they generally out-score us.

In the short term....no question. Long term? Who knows...would be years before that can be determined.

Regardless of where Iginla finishes the season, he will have more points than any other player on the Flames. I guarantee it. Just as he always does.
