I said he had a decent game...Flames basically locked it down, he made saves an NHL goalie should make.
Shootout was as bad as I've seen

Pari-zee is the proper way to say it. Parise himself asked that he be called that after he signed with Minny.

I think Kerr might be correct on that actually.

All teams are in this together, so the excuse that they had a shortened training camp and weren't playing doesn't hold a lot of water for me. The guys just need to be better. All of them.

We'll certainly be healthier than we are now, and again... picking up 5 of 8 points in our last four - despite those injuries - is a positive and something to build off as we get healthier.

Thought Irving was good and he looked much more comfortable in the net. Feel pretty bad for him in the shootout though. Two great players in Parise and koivu and they made him look silly. If Kipper can't go Wednesday I'd really like to see Irving get the start again. I want to have faith in him, but I have a feeling he is probably done with the acquisition of MacDonald.
TJ Brodie! Bright spot of the year no question. Another fantastic game from him and Wideman. Just playing so well and his confidence is so high right now.
Glenny and Tanguay were horrible tonight. Both need to wake up and fast. Just unacceptable and hopefully they get going.

I don't understand all the negativity in this thread. Irving played great tonight. The team as a whole played strong, defensive hockey against another defensive team that tries to exploit every mistake you make. We played it safe and with solid defensive play and goaltending we did exceptional.
We lost in the skills competition on two shots that were some of the best I have ever seen. I don't think any goalie in the NHL would have stopped those two dekes if they had never seen them before. People blaming Irving for letting those in need to give themselves a slap.

what marginal players? hudler, cervenka have been awesome this year.
We need to stop complaining. This year is going well, there's chemistry there, and hopefully cervanka starts to get going soon.
hopefully backlund, baertchi get back soon and find their games also.
not making the playoffs is not failure for this roster. getting 9th/10th spot in the conference would make me cry.

We don't miss cammy he was useless when he played, and is injury prone. Hopefully he is bought out.

I've been waiting for the Flames to "build off of" for almost 10 years now. Time to **** or get off the pot management, be a good hockey team or just tank and start all over.
This barely better than the worst teams is really hard to take.

The last time I saw someone bite as hard as Irving did in the shootout.. someone offered Kyle Wellwood free cake.
I think it's pretty easy to chalk it up to nerves though - first nhl shootout, and probably doesn't have a very good read on a lot of shooters yet. He'll get better over time. The Parise attempt was clumsy, but he made a good effort to get back in position after the fake. If he was a little more active with his stick after that he may have stopped it. The Koivu one.. laughable save attempt for sure, but it's a save he has to make in order for the team to win - that's a lot of pressure for a young goalie who's playing his (I think) first home game (this season anyways), first shootout, and the team playing pretty poorly in front of him.
I'm willing to give him a pass on it. Definitely not pinning the loss on him.
More telling to me was the flames shooters.. To say Hudler was head and shoulders better than the other flames shooters would be understatement of the year. Jones and Tanguay had nothing - no head fakes, no leg lifts, no fake shots.. just a slow and predictable single move deke that wouldn't work often in a decent beer league.

Hartley is now 0-3 in shootouts.
Gotta believe this was a point of emphasis for this year. When you put Blair Jones out as your first shooter, you better be right. He wasn't. Tanguay's effort wasn't much better. Irving was clearly overmatched. Back to the drawing board -- even though Cammy, Baertschi, and Backlund (all good SO candidates) are injured, you still have Cervenka, Stempniak -- heck, even Wideman if it goes past three rounds.

Irving isnt the reason we lost this game but I don't think he will ever be an NHL starter, I agree with getting a veteran backup

-we are nearly a quarter of the way through the season, 4 points out of the playoffs, 14th in the west
-our best forward prospects are injured
-our starting goalie is injured
-our best players are playing like hot garbage
-we are the least physical team in the league
-we have no number one centre, our top 3 lines are constantly changing
I love hockey and hope our team turns it around but if this stays on par I can't wait until we shake things up and start to move in a new direction. I am sick of always losing, always being soft and being the joke of the league. Not a good game, things look bleaker every game, can't wait for the era of Brodie and Baertschi

I also hate that we keep on insisting to pass though a player instead if hitting the open man. Tanguay had so many forced passes that hit sticks and kill plays.

We are missing a third line winger, a third line center and a 2nd line winger. You are the one who said 3 out of the top six, which is just a ridiculous assertion, nobody would consider all 3 of those players to be amongst the top six forwards on the Flames.
At least the "It is early excuse" has been replaced by the "When we get healthy we will be better". Should be able to ride that one for the next ten games.
Flames are 1-3-2 at home a quarter of the way through the season. These are points that are just getting pissed away. Not sure how you put lipstick on that pig.

I am proud of the boys tonight. I predicted a loss but to come out with a point is a win for us IMO.
We overachieved with a depleted roster and lost in a skills competition.

That isn't as bad as you're making it sound when taking those things into consideration.
But if you're that unhappy, why not log out and find another hobby?
Those of you who think this team sucks and do nothing but come here to bang that drum really seem like you're wasting a lot of your own time being so invested in all of this.
