Why not just quit dude?
You're not achieving anything by switching over to the electronic smokes
I'm 4 days away from 6 months
I can kind of notice being more healthy, but my main satisfaction comes from the fact that I was able to do it and prove to myself that I can.

Props to everyone who managed to quit. A while back I used Allan Carr and lasted about a month, then I just became ignorant smoking when drinking or hangover till I envtually became a smoker again.
Then last month my wife really layed into me about quiting, so we picked a date (Sept 1st) and unfortunatley again I've had 2cigs (same day, same hour actually) since then. But as time goes on it does seem to become easier, I never thought i'd make it through a day at work; here I am on day-2 at work without smoking.

Just keep at it, I know for me it took 3 tries of quitting and starting again to realize that no I cannot just have this one while I'm drinking. It's all or nothing.

So I had been smoke free for 18 months and feeling good about it. I had no desire of smoking again and I was totally fine fighting any urges that I used to have(after a meal, right after work, right when I got in my car, while I was drinking) I was a quitter and I was so happy.
Back in July, my life changed as my father suddenly passed away at the age of 59. It was not expected and it hit me pretty hard. The day it happened, I had 3 smokes and I felt sick. But the week leading up to the funeral wasn't getting any easier and I found myself with a pack in hand. I smoked 4 packs during that awful week, but I told myself I'd be a non smoker again on the Monday after the funeral. I was able to quit again for about a week, but then I broke down and gave in and now, I'm a ef'n full smoker again and I'm so mad at myself. I'm smoking as much as I used to, about 12-15 smokes per day.
I didn't find it all that tough to quit 18 months ago, a couple rough days off the start, but once I was thru those, I was fine, but it's a matter of committing to those first rough patch.
I hope I can get back on the right track soon.

So sorry about your loss. Don't beat yourself up. Lots of people fall of the wagon for a time. The trick is to make it a short time and then get back to doing what you know is the right thing. If it helps, My dad died from smoking 6 years ago and the last time I saw him alive we both promised eachother we would quit smoking for good. He died one week later. I stuck to my promise and never touched another cigarette. It remains a bond he and I have to this day. My advice: make a deal with your dad right now. Tell him (he's listening) you are quitting for good and could use his help getting through it.
Good luck man.

Smoke free for 367 days today. I filled out the Non Smoker declaration form and faxed it off to my insurance company.

I'm 2 weeks no smoking with the help of electronic cigarettes. I bought the ego-T from the people at the crossroads market (they're only there on weekends).
Now I'm buying all kinds of juices and vaping accessories haha. There is a bit of a science to it. The best part is my 'taste' for cigarettes has completely vanished (and I can vape indoors). Never thought it would be this easy for me.

I have gone from a small pack every two days to a small pack once a week. And I only smoke after 5, and when my girlfriend isn't around. I'd probably have quit completely by now if she had a normal schedule.
I have found a big progress mark is that now I don't even think about smoking when I'm out drinking or at a party. I just never do it. That is a huge win for someone trying to quit.
The worst for me is sitting on my balcony after coming home from work and having one in the sunset. That one is hard to give up.

I've never been a smoker myself but my mother has most of her life and has expressed interest in trying to quit.
Wondering if anyone can suggest something I might get her for Christmas to help kick start her campaign to nix the habit. Was thinking of a book or kit of some sort but have no idea where to start.
Can anyone recommend something that might work and where I might get it?

Nice! I'm at 1 year, 7 months & 10 days. It's awesome and I feel so much better. I'd tried quitting probably over 20 times in the past. A lot of lessons learned and here I am.

I read back, and I realized I have started and stopped smoking 5 times since I last updated. I have now quit since October 19th.

So weird this thread popped up, I was just logging in to post...
It's time. I quit for 6 months a couple years ago - cold turkey - and started again. Suggestions? Do's and don'ts?

If you can make it 1 more, the hardest part is over.
Grab yourself some nicorette if you have to, to tie over the urge. It is what I used to quit. Took me 6 months to kick the gum habit, but it was a far better alternative. The thought of a cigarette right now seriously makes me nauseous.

I think today is day 81.
I haven't even made it public to friends and family but I feel fantastic.
I still have a full pack wrapped up, and a half pack, both sitting by the front door. Left them there on purpose, although I'm not really sure why.
I've "quit" before but what scares me about this time is that I'm not hacking stuff up. I used to bring up quite a bit of stuff when I coughed (when I quit). This time, I feel as though my lungs are not cleaning themselves out like they have on previous attempts to quit. It kind of trips me out a little.
Either way...it's a fantastic feeling knowing you're done with them.
Congrats to all who have, and good luck to all of you who try to kick the habit!
