Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Irving looked shakey in both of his starts and Hartley doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in him. Joey McDonald has played over 100 NHL games, is a proven back up goalie and the Flames give up nothing to sign him. Irving goes back to the AHL where he belongs. Irving has proven nothing except he is not ready for the NHL in his limited amount of starts.

Hard to really get a gauge on what the detractors want from Irving. I understand that ideally he would make every save, but that's just not feasible.
He shut the Canucks out for almost 30 minutes, backstopped the team to a 1-0 lead and held the fort while the Flames had at least 2 beautiful chances to go up 2-0.
If the expectation is that he stand on his head, then I suggest that we're back to the same old problem with this team: they're not good enough to win unless the goalie (Kipper / whoever) plays out of his mind. The fix isn't to bring in another goalie and make impossible demands of him.

If you're flames management though, that is the fix exactly.

If Kipper is out for an extended period, we're beyond screwed. Would be a good opportunity to do some major retooling.

Wouldn't it just be easier to take Turek out of his cryogenic freeze?

^^^^This..... All the fanbase should expect out of a goalie coming with success from the AHL is don't beat yourself just give your team a chance to win.
Maybe, just maybe if Kipper is out for an extended period of time, than Mr. Feaster will actually have the intellectual honesty he claims and really look at this team and make some very difficult decisions. Maybe that's a full on rebuild maybe it's not, maybe it's a hybrid of column A and B but atleast the Kipper factor doesn't cloud your judgement as it has in years past.

I assume theres' a trade coming in between the goalies. I bet its either Kipper or Irving that goes for some prospects/draft picks.

Iggy has fought with 3 players that became teammates later on.
1997: Dean McAmmond
2000: Craig Conroy
2001: Darren McCarty

AC, you'd better get off the board and hurry up with that kipper video.
We might need it in a couple of days.

Not sure why people thought he played well on Saturday. He looked really shaky.

Flames goaltending coach Clint Malarchuk disgrees with you....
Quote:
He made some fantastic saves,” goaltending coach Clint Malarchuk marvelled quietly as the Flames slipped out into the darkness outside Rogers Arena. “He didn’t let in a bad goal. It could have been worse without him tonight.”
It could have been worse without Irving. In fact, it could have gone into double digits
|
Quote:
Irving wears No. 37 in the Calgary net, but he looked very much like No. 34 in terms of acrobatics against a high-flying Vancouver team that simply toyed with the visitors.
In search of his third career NHL victory, Irving channelled his inner Kiprusoff in the first with a brilliant right-pad stop on former Flame Chris Higgins. He followed that up in the second period with a string of saves that including a forward sprawling snow-angel to rob Henrik Sedin and a brilliant blocker stop on Cochrane native Mason Raymond
|
Quote:
“He’s been through some adversity,” Malarchuk explained of his young goaltender. “But he came to our training camp, and I talked to him before that and said, ‘Just get your head on straight kid.’ And from the first day of our training camp he’s been unbelievable.”

I don't see the Flames moving Kipper it won't happen unless they are packing it in for the season and if that is the case we can say bye-bye to Iggy and Bouw as well.
If it is Irving I see the team getting no more than the 5th rounder they lost in the Wideman deal.
I think the Flames are packaging one of their goalies, one of their Dmen, and a surplus winger for some grit in the forward lines someone who might be able to play in the top 9.

And here I thought it was us fans that were supposed to be the crazy ones demanding miracles of every player whereas management would be play the role of rational, level-headed professionals

It becomes obvious that Taylor is not in the Flames NHL plans. My read is that the team brought him in on the thought Kiprusoff would miss only a game or two. I suspect they got news he's out a bit longer, and wanted someone with some experience to push Irving. Enter MacDonald.
For Taylor's sake you should be hoping he gets claimed. Losing him costs the Flames nothing - though it would hurt the Heat - and gives him a decent shot and some NHL time.

Yeah, if Taylor get's claimed he'd probably be thrilled, since that means whoever's doing the claiming plans to keep him on the big club (and pay him the NHL salary) for the remainder of the year.

He was available for free for the past 2 years. Taylor has absolutely no trade value.

I highly, highly doubt that anyone would pick him up on waivers. And almost guarantee no one would trade for him for anything of significance.
