I'm no Doctor, but I don't think dropping to your knees is an effective form of treatment or rehab either.
He's skating, so that's a good sign. They probably want to make sure that the ligament is at a point where one drop to the butterfly wouldnt set him back.
I don't think that means he is weeks away.

Per the post you quoted, I think Wronksian's point was that the Flames have not developed a goaltender since Mike Vernon. Brathewait, and Turek were the only somewhat competent guys between Vernon and Kiprusoff...Wregget maybe too, although a bit injury prone.
Mind you you could say this about every position....the Flames only way to get decent players seems to be signing them or trading for them. Maybe...waiver claims now too, although McDonald is at an age, where he is what he is, a fringe 2b goaltender.
|
We did draft Craig Anderson who is starting in OTT, however in typical Flames fashion, we did not tender a contract.

I agree that it doesn't mean he is weeks away, but skating also doesn't mean he is 2 days away either. I think we see Kipper dress the game following his first full practice and possibly as the back up.

It boggles my mind how owners continue to open their pocketbooks for this guy. This addition makes zero sense.
Why is it so hard for the Flames to finally realize they need a competent backup?
For God's sakes just make the deal for Ben Bishop and get it over with.

Where are you getting this info from? The new CBA hasn't even finished being drafted yet and there's nothing in the MOU about changes to free agency.

Yes he is.
But this franchise has played Kipper 99% of the time, giving no rookies lie Irving a chance and when your 99% guy goes down Irving gets swallowed in the pressure cooker.

If we look at it rationally Kipper and Backlund have very similar injuries, an MCL injury that likely is more limiting for a goalie then a player since the goalie has more lateral movement.
Yet Backlund is out 4-6 weeks while Kipper is out week to week.
Granted there is a difference between grade 1 (Kipper) and 2 (Backlund) strains but Wiki has this listed as recovery times for the injury.
Could really just be that Kipper is worse off then expected and the Flames are making this move to provide some insurance.
|
More than likely the bolded part is the truth. The the thing that is weird is that Feaster refuses to comment on the situation. Its not top secret that Kipper is hurt and could be hurt a little longer than expected.

Pretty sure it was in a Dater's article about O'Reilly, he talked about a rule that allows players that are RFAs for 2 years unsigned become UFAs

I also heard of a "rock solid" plan going forward, I dont put too much stock into what they say anymore good and/or bad.

It has been one long, grim ride.
I remember being rather optimistic about each and every one of them at some point.
And people wonder why I'm a pessimist now.

Frankly, I'm still a bit stunned there's a subject Jay Feaster doesn't want to discuss at length.

Pretty sure Grant Rollheiser is on a PTO right now with the Heat, he was with Utah, was a part of the Heat's training camp last fall.

Yeah, the good times that were Craig Button....get rid of St.Louis, and Giguere, let a guy like Anderson get away so they could keep Levente Szuper.
At least a guy like Sutter did hit on a few trades. Unfortunately Flames GM's are in a position where they have to hit on a lot of trades due to their inept drafting.

He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. He later printed this:
http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2013...-status/12444/
Quote:
I wrote today that Ryan O’Reilly could become an unrestricted free agent after NEXT season if he does not sign a contract with Colorado by then. That’s what was expressed to me by people I trust, but it turns out that may be wrong, and that O’Reilly won’t be eligible for UFA until another four seasons, which includes this one.
The new collective bargaining agreement actually has not been fully put into place yet. There is still only an outline of the general terms, but all the fine print stuff has not been officially put in place. I’m still waiting for official confirmation, but it appears the people I talked to may have had a misunderstanding of the new CBA, which they said had a new provision that would allow O’Reilly or other restricted free agents to go UFA after two years of being unsigned – a so called “You can’t just let ‘em rot” provision.
Sorry about that if this turns out to be incorrect after all. I guess everybody is still a little confused by the new CBA – including me.
