Flames lay an egg in Vancouver, happens at least once or twice a year. 4 out of 6 points on the road trip. This game will be forgiven with a good performance at home on Monday

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I really don't know what to make of this team. The wins we do have are against bottom feeders and a Lidstrom-less Detroit team and went to OT with a dead tired Chicago team. Could see us anywhere from 10th to 14th.

Just got back from the game, needless to say, nothing to be excited about.
I haven't been in Roger's arena for a win since Tony Amonte scored in a SO win, maybe 6 years ago or even more. I think I'm gonna stay away from that building for a long time.

Made a point of finding a bar in another country that would show hnic tonight but didn't show up till after the first. Just outplayed by a large margin and had to listen to a few old senior canucks fans lord it up at the bar who I knew probably didn't watch a game for ten years before their cup run. Damn you flames!

Hard game to watch that's for sure. The pbp sure didn't help either....Ughhh! A couple things stuck out for me.
- Street didn't look out of place at all....props to the coaching staff in Abbottsford
- Irving was fine, not terrible, not spectacular. We've been spoiled with Kipper that's for sure but it's not Irving's fault tonight
-The whole team minus Brodie and Street looked deathly slow especially the top line. everything they tried seemed to be 2 steps behind. Painful.....
- Was impressed with Brodie nearly the whole game.....just seems to make good decisions and can skate himself out of trouble.
- Couldn't stand watching the canucks fall down at the slightest breeze either and the Zebras sure took the bait tonight!
- Turnovers in the defensive zone sure cost us a lot. Can't score goals if you can't get out of your own end!
- Good road trip overall and a good game to tear apart for the coaching staff.

Flames embarrassed themselves tonight. Yea, the Canucks are a superior team, but there was no push-back whatsoever from Calgary, and they clearly didn't show up to play tonight. Our first line was brutally out-matched by the Sedin sisters. We had no answer for them...and haven't for a few years now. That one was hard to stomach tonight. Hopefully they can rebound with a big win against Minny on Monday.

“Leland Irving kept us in the game,” said head coach Bob Hartley. “Without him, it would have been much worse than this.”

Quote:
“They wanted it way more than us,” Hartley said. “It doesn’t sit right, because they basically had the same schedule as us. That’s going to be the test. Part of out-working a team is your mental preparation. Tonight we had a great start, and it faded away.”
|
Quote:
“In this business, you can’t satisfy yourself with this, especially with a poor effort,” Hartley said. “The bottom line is that we just didn’t give ourselves the chance to win the game.
“It’s sad, because you’re playing the Vancouver Canucks. They’re our archrivals, our divisional rivals. You play a great first period, and suddenly the game is over.

Despite his play to start the season, though progressively improving before his injury
Cammy has traditionally found ways to beat goaltenders in Vancouver.
Too bad we didn't have him back for this one to soften the blow a bit.

Did the Flames jersey tossed on the ice make it to tv? The amount of tweets I got about that damn jersey was ridiculous.

Yep. They did a replay too, showing how the ref almost tripped over it and Schneider was trying to warn him about it.

You must love how Luongo talked about the shapcrew and called Scott Oake a milt on after hours eh?

WOW abysmal coaching decisions, or lack thereof.
Come on Bob, wake up.
God d***it. The one team I wish you guys would just stem the tide against. I don't like these 5-1 games, reminds me of early last season.

Holy #### guys, did we really expect to go 40-0 the rest of the way? For that matter did you think we would have great efforts in every game remaining? All teams lose and lose badly every now and then. We had no Kipper, Cammy, Backlund, Sven, and were playing a redhot Canucks team at home, no big surprise we lost. Got to shake this one off and get ready for Monday. We won 2 out of 3 on the road, and have been playing very well up until tonight.
Sit out the whole top line? Really?
Play Taylor? Why bother, he's back in Abby once Kipper's back, and Irving has been decent.
Glencross in the box? We're already shorthanded and we should sit one of our best wingers? Yes, he's not great lately, but he's always been streaky.
Settle down guys, it was one loss. It sucks it was against Vancouver, but lets not go crazy with knee jerk reactions.

It's not that we lose, and it never is... it's how we lose. It's the lack of effort/intensity/drive/care/whatever. I can take the team losing if we really are just that bad.
When the losses come from apathy, then there's a problem.

I'm curious to see how Hartley handles this bunch after this loss. A telling quote from him is how he is "sad" because they have had basically the same schedule as the Canucks.

What bothers me is the officiating in this league. Our team plays a very non-physical straight forward style, against teams that work the refs it's painful to watch. I turned off the game when we were down 3-1 because it was making me too angry, if the Canucks win a cup with the diving nonsense they deserve an asterisk beside their names. I saw one hit where the Canuck slid behind the net and was flopping around literally like a fish rolling and convulsing like he'd been tasered. Garbage like that ruins the game. The holding and hooking calls this year are getting out of hand, it seems like if you nudge the stick of an opponent and you aren't directly in front of him you get a hooking penalty. When the pbp guys in Vancouver even mention that the call was iffy then you know there's a problem, ####ing Vancouver and the damn reffing in this league makes losing go from a normal competition to it feeling like getting spit in our face.

What bugs me is that in years past, if somehow they got down to a hated rival by three or four goals, they'd at least be able to make things uncomfortable for the Canucks for the third by pounding on some of those divers, or dishing out some nasty hits. This year's team doesn't have the guys either willing or capable of doing that. I wanted it to at least look a bit like the third period of the Leafs-Habs game. (Not that Montreal has the ability to scare anybody either.)
