Ftr, I don't think Schultz is going to make the Canadian olympic team ever, but this thread screams butt hurt towards an offhand comment.

hmmm maybe you are right. We misunderstood Pang. He might have been referring to the Something Special Olympics.

I get the irrational hatred for the guy, given he wears blue and orange rather than a horse head, but to say he'd be a bottom pairing d-man on the Flames is laughable. The 30th place overall team is so deep on the back end that he wouldn't fit in your top 4? Come on.
That being said, it's almost as laughable to rate him as a serious contender for 2014. MAYBE if he wins the Calder and ups the pace next season, but even at that, Canada's D is too deep I think. 2018 is more likely if they go.

Never.
What's with all the hype anyways. He's not even a good powerplay specialist. Yesterday's goal was his first point in his last 5 games. They must have gotten at least 20 PP opportunities in those games. 1 point.

Probably 2nd pairing, behind Bouwmeester, Giordano and Wideman. Also probably 2nd PP unit.
Edit: The more I think about it the more I think Brodie might edge him out defensively, so maybe he would be 3rd pairing making up the minutes on the PP. Also, does Schultz kill penalties?

given the short season this year, it is unlikely he will make enough of an impact to be placed on the team. at the end of the day, TC would likely sleect a more mature player who may not be playing as well as JS.

Why are we talking about Washington here?
As for the Flames he would be borderline top 4 as mentioned and fighting it out with Brodie. Now based on the fact the the entitled POS would have made sure that he was guaranteed undeserved minutes if he came here he likely would be higher than that but based on merit he would be hard pressed to make the top 4 in Calgary.

Until he shows he is anything other than a disaster that he has been so far in his zone he won't come close to team Canada. Way too many two way guys on Canada and he isn't close to good enough offensively to overcome his soft, poor defensive game.
Any talk of him being close to any Canadian national team is a joke and only a product of his hype. At this point the World Championship team is way above his level.

LEAVE JUSTIN ALONE!!!!!
give him a break. he's never played so many games before and he's getting tired. I'm glad Oilers managed his playing time so well this year. He COULD win the AHL rookie of the year!

Easy, folks. Schultz is a rookie playing only a handful of games (10) in the NHL. This is his first year. From the posts read, it seemed the expectations impose on this guy is outrageous...
Since you brought out points as part of the discussion, then he would tie for the lead as a dman with Wideman (6) if he were a Flame. He would also have more points than Gio, JBou, Iginla, Hudler, Stempniak etc. Give this guy a year or two, then you can be a better judge of him and given what he has shown, you can bet he will be a star.
This guy skates with his head up, always looking around trying to move the puck out well, picks his spots to join the rush and has a great shot that somehow finds its way to the back of the net.

hmmm i know math is hard to understand up in Edmonton, but the Oilers have 3 games on hand. I bet Wideman will have more than 6 points after game 10.

Really eh?
Like i have said on this board just recently, the kid looks to have a very high ceiling when it comes to his offensive abilities and skills. Defensively, and as should be expected, he leaves A LOT to be desired.
So yes, if he was a Flame player, he would be getting all kinds of hype from the locals as he should, and if that was what this was all about, you would be correct.
But we aren't.
We are talking about his ability to be considered among the most elite Dmen in the country where the most elite dmen in the world tend to come from. And its without any hesitation whatsoever, that i say it is an absolute pipe dream and farce to think he will be at a world class level in 12 months time playing for the hardest hockey team in the world to make.
Stupid is stupid...and anyone thinking Schultz is anywhere near being able to make the olympic team...is stupid.

Flames are in 30th place due to playing less games for one thing...a win tonight and they are the same .500 as the contenders up north.
obviously this is all tongue and cheek...the point is the guy has been highly over rated. Dude is great on the PP and below average everywhere else

Shultz has been pretty good up to now, but it's annoying how overhyped he is, from when he was still a free agent up to now. Blame the media for overhyping the guy. The fact that Pang had him on Team Canada's roster was just insane.

nevermind Pang wanting Shultz on the Olympic team, the calder. Pang will push for Shultz to be nominated for the Norris.
You were a horrible goalie a complete siv and have proven over the years to be an even worse analyst.
