Pacific: LA, Anaheim, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver, Colorado, Calgary, Edmonton
Central: Winnipeg, Detroit, Dallas, Minnesota, Columbus, Chicago, St. Louis, Nashville

We just get screwed on relative odds of making the playoffs vis a vis the East until the NHL moves to 32 teams.

The NHL pretty much telegraphed all of this with its realignment plans.

Plus, if they decided to move Phoenix to the east somewhere instead, the Pacific/NW becomes a 7 team division/conference and the Coyotes new home becomes one of the 8 team divisions/conferences.

You might think that would make the Board of Governors more ameniable to lowering the price tag for the Coyotes to make the mathematics more attractive.

Interesting that no one is really emphasizing the rather unrealistic price tag for the Coyotes as being an obstacle to purchase in that location.

You can always sell something for something as long as the something is the right price. The Coyotes could definitely be sold and stay in Phoenix at the right price, versus the aggressive one the league is demanding.

Well Glendale is or was willing to pay a new owner $324M over 20 years and they couldn't find anyone to take it. It seems the Coyotes have a negative value in Phoenix while if they moved, the NHL could easily make a profit.

That has Coyotes officials and players, as well as Glendale City Hall, reeling from the increased possibility that no one wants to, or can, buy the team and keep it in the Phoenix market.

“No one in the front office knew of this and they are reeling,” said one local sports marketing executive who is close to the hockey team but asked not to be identified.

Coyotes officials are not commenting on the situation. But privately, officials with or close to the team and city are in the dark regarding the Jamison bid. This comes after voicing some optimism earlier this week he would beat the Jan. 31 deadline. “Many have been 100 percent duped,” said one local executive who has been close to Coyotes deal.

Move this stupid ass team already. And no, I don't feel sorry for their fans one bit. Maybe they should have showed up more to games over the years. Give this franchise to a city that will embrace it.

Hell, Regina or Saskatoon would have more success.

Ont, QC) and two other markets where the odds of success is at least as good as Phoenix (KC, Seattle), and of course the wild card in Las Vegas.

Yes it did, actually. The league was looking for new partners in Atlanta before the Coyotes thing even broke. Hell, Atlanta Spirit wanted to sell the team almost from the moment it acquired it in 2004. Seven years on the market, no takers.

The only reason why Phoenix is different is because Moyes and Balsillie's bankruptcy scam forced something the NHL would prefer to do quietly (a la Atlanta) into a very public sphere.

If he believed Jamison, he was in idiot. Nobody with half a brain did. He had his chance to walk away from the whole mess and finish his career in a stable environment of his choosing. Doan made his bed, now he can move it to Quebec.

It's strange how people closest to the situation are blind to what's happening. It reminds me of the American's gun culture being quite normal to their gun enthusiasts, while the rest of the world knows otherwise.
