I'm coming around to the view that maybe silly religious beliefs shouldn't be afforded any special status or protection.

Also, CP is a great community, but it harbours a great deal of ignorance about aboriginals, which leads to racist attitudes, both innocent and overt.

And I think a Filipino baby farm where children are mass-raised until the age of 5 before being returned to their parents back in North America is not only a viable idea, but a potentially lucrative business. You try to tell that to some young parents though... sheesh. Stay in the dark ages with your mewling spawn then. See if I care when my baby farm makes the Fortune 500.

I'm only sad that I stumbled on this thread so late.

· Like most of the rest of the posters here, your opinions on practically everything are ill-informed and almost certainly wrong.

· Religion is necessary and will always exist in some form or another.

· "Objectivity" and "fairness" are socially propagated myths.

· Television is probably the greatest invention of all time. Most of it represents the peak of quality entertainment and culture, and it is ridiculous to both look down on those who enjoy television, and to feel guilty for watching copious amounts.

*EDIT* One more here:

· Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are the most intelligent and balanced American political figures of at least the past four decades.

I hate the two-week break before the super bowl. As a result we have to suffer through two weeks of Ray Lewis crying and attempting to dance.

Play your last game and retire, already!

Even a well-educated and well-spoken guy can be dead wrong on several fronts.

I'm not sure if this is a veiled rebuke or merely a general assertion that is otherwise unrelated to my post above. However, I should like to point out a few things.

First, I completely agree, and at no point have I made any knowledge claims that would invalidate your statement. I am most certainly wrong more often than not, but on that note, "wrong" is also best understood on a spectrum. Some opinions are clearly more or less wrong than others.

Second, as an extension of the above premise, the correctness of any given opinion most often is directly proportionate to ones knowledge and expertise in the subject area. Not all opinions are equal, and like it or not, well-educated opinions are almost always superior to the notoriously entitled "public opinion".

Third, our society has necessarily emerged as a collective of "ultra-specialists". Generalism has disappeared with increased needs for specialisation, and as a consequence, most of us tend to know a great deal about only a fraction of things. What so often occurs under these conditions is that we misconstrue a lot of knowledge about a few things for a lot of knowledge about everything: We extrapolate from the minutiae of our expertise to pretend to speak articulately about a great number of things of which we actually know very little.

Alas, this is the frustrating thing with opinions globally. Everyone has one about practically everything, but it is virtually impossible for most of them to be even remotely valid.

The lesson in all of this?

Defer to the experts.

Vancouver is very well designed. The downtown core is lively and vibrant. Much of the infrastructure is relatively new. There is no nightlife, but welcome to Canada-except-Montreal.

And in Montreal, you have to put up with Montreal.

Over my past 10 flights I think 6 have been Westjet and 4 Air Canada. On that track record at this point if I can get the flight for about the same price on both, I'm flying Air Canada. I like the planes much better. That said, I disagree on the Westjet employees; in terms of service in my experience they trounce AC.

I think that Vancouver is a fantastic city—easily one of the best in NA, but it pales in comparison to New York and Chicago, and the great European cities Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Barcelona, Istanbul, etc. Furthermore, I find both Vancouver and Seattle frequently to be emulations of one another on a few levels, and this in my mind detracts a little bit from the common claim about either of them being the "best city on the planet".

There is no shame in being a world class city, but from among the 30 or 40 or so, it is pretty difficult determining "greatness" from top to bottom.

I want a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup, and obviously my first choice is the Flames, but I am okay with any Canadian team winning the cup.

(is there a prize for having the least popular opinion - I think I just won)
