I'm thinking of upgrading my videocard when the 700 series drops (likely a 770), but that's literally more because I'm a framerate drop-nazi and I go nuts when I can't run everything on stupid @ vsync 60 FPS solid.

Currently i5-3570k@4.7, 16GB 1600 ram, GTX 580@850/2200.

So they're having server issues already even with the beta, does that not seem to bode well when there are a lot more people playing when the game gets released?

Is it rendered useless in this case? If someone knows if it is still usable by someone on a PC, let me know, and you can have the code, as it's now useless to me.

Has no bearing. A beta is for working out bugs and determining load, it isn't just a preview of the game.

I know I am probably not in the group of people you are directing this question at, but I have a core i7 930 and a GTX 560 ti and the game runs perfectly at ultra high graphics settings and 1920x1080. There were some performance issues on Friday night that seem to have been addressed during yesterday's outage as well.

No, but it does expose a weakness in the whole requirement of internet connectivity for playing the game, specifically that you shouldn't be at the mercy of an online service to play single player. Not that we needed the beta to tell us that.

I'm running a Core i7 920, 12 GB DDR3, and a Radeon HD 6870. No issues here.

Exactly my thoughts. Internet connectivity and Origin are both major problems affecting my potential decision to buy the game. Having already been burned by EA more than once, I don't like the online requirement at all. If I buy a game I want to be able to continue playing it for as long as I own a copy of it. I don't want to be at the whim of some server problem or business decision to turn off servers. Saves are also on the cloud now as well so if you want to play on the plane while travelling or when EA decides to discontinue support, tough luck.

That being said, beta was pretty good. Ran perfectly on my i5 2570K, 16GB RAM and ATI5870 at max resolution. There were no glitches and game was not choppy in any way. Pretty fun now that we have a road arc tool. Found myself building roads that mirrored terrain rather than the grid like I used to do.

Running it at 5760x1080 taxed my card, more than other games. I'll probably have to upgrade from the 7850 or go crossfire. I tried going back to single monitor and it ran perfectly, but now that I've seen the light it's hard to do that.

I'll probably be getting new monitor (or monitors) for this game. Don't tell my fiancee.

I played in the beta this weekend and wish I had seen this thread earlier! Are there any rumors of additional "closed" "betas" (aka wide open demos to get your feet wet....)

That was so not a real beta, but a c***tease.

They just announced that the Mac version will be available "in the spring". Vague, but better than nothing I guess.

There may be additional betas but nothing announced as of yet. That said, there are only 35 days until release.

This is the only suggestive thing I have read:

Ocean Quigley ‏@oceanquigley
PSA: You should go ahead and uninstall the #SimCity Beta, we're not going to be using that build/data again.

Here's an interesting article with pictures on modeling Sim cities after real life neighborhood types. Pretty cool.

Supposedly someone got banned for giving their feedback on the forums.

http://games.slashdot.org/story/13/0...from-ea-forums

Of course this is the same EA where forum bans = can't play the games you purchased either. Or they claimed that was something they would fix but last I'd read they still hadn't.
