They wouldn't. It'd be more like Gagner, Klefbom and a 3rd. The general consensus is
"Meh" roster player + good but not the team's best prospect + 2nd-3rd rd pick.
And they're trading within the division so they'd be hesitant unless they're getting a good return.

I could see something being built around that. Maybe Gagner, Khabibulin and a 2nd in 2013 for Luongo & Ballard, with the Canucks eating some of the Ballard contract

We all know how this will go, we've seen it before. You will give a few reasons why (you hope) LA will beat the Canucks, it won't happen, and you'll move on to why SJ/Chi will beat them, and so on. So predictable, so transparent. If you're going to predict a Canucks loss, at least wait for a team that has a decent shot. Boy who cried wolf.

If u have a deal in place, you are announcing a trade; pending physical or a player waiving a NTC. And it's a media source reporting it, not a GM. If anything, this hurts the proceedings.
|
Not really. Teams often have deals in place that are contingent on some things. I remember a few years back there were strong rumors that the Canucks would trade Bieksa to Washington for a forward (Fleischmann?) and Eric Belanger would then be re-signed. The deal fell through, Fleischmann wasn't traded and Belanger wasn't re-signed. These things happen all the time. It's just rare that it would be announced like that, then again, how many players end up being openly on the trading block? Not a whole lot of players openly wait for a trade.

I won't understimate desperateness of GMs. This is what Gillis is gambling on. He's waiting for interested GMs to become desperate or lose faith in their team's goaltending. Washington's name has been brought up and why not? Entering the season they thought one of Holtby and Neuvirth might become the answer. Now? I don't know, the Caps aren't rebuilding. If they can trade for Luongo without giving up much in the way of roster players it might be worth it.

My thing with Washington is who do they trade? Kuznetsov, on the basis that they don't think he's coming over to North America? Alzner maybe? Brouwer? I don't know what they've got that fits the bill.

Gillis is full of brown bananas. He doesn't have anybody willing to trade with him for what he is looking in return. Maybe he is saying one player.. okay maybe that player is Tavares or Lecavalier or Stamkos or a superstar player. Luongo is a good goalie and I am sure he can help the other teams in the NHL but because of his stupid and ridiculous contract, not a lot of teams are willing to give up a very good player for him.

Gillis has already stated that he is not getting offers close to what he wants. Ever offer has been with a bad contract in return and canucks do not want that. They need cap space going into next year and don't want to turn around and buyout a new player.
I give credit to Luongo (puked a bit there) for being quite professional this whole time but make no mistake he wants out and the longer this goes the more it will fester. I'm really hoping Schneider craps that bed a few more times in the early part of this season, should make for fun times.

Meh...watch him go to Detroit and that they are waiting for Detroit to sort out a deal regarding their defence first. I know, I know....Detroit's goaltending is just fine....at least it was before all the retirements.

Besides the defensive breakdowns last night against Dallas, Howard stood on his head for the most part. Highly doubt the wings put much more value over Howard on Luongo.

I see the Wings as a potential team as well. Franzen for Luongo makes sense for both teams. Franzen with the twins could be scary and both he and Luongo have crappy long term deals.
I just don't see Luongo bringing in young player, top prospect, and a pick.

Wings need dmen. Not an overinflated goalie.

Howard is a UFA after this season and has a low cap hit for this year such that Detroit could handle having him and Luongo on the roster at the same time until said Howard contract expires, while Franzen is precisely the sort of player the Canucks would take back.
Thing is, Detroit may have a number of problems, but goaltending is not among them. I don't really see it happening.

I think Gillis is full of hot air, and the fact that he is talking about having a deal in place is a ploy to put the pressure on other teams to act (and to distract from the goal tending issue that he has).

If the can Flip Howard for a top 4 Dman than the deal could make sense. Howard might want the same cap hit Luongo has this summer?

If that's what he's doing, it's a mistake.
It sounds like their are a few teams that are just kind of interested. If they realize the price is high, they will simply back out of negotiations. Meanwhile, further disrupting the team, by informing them Luongo is on the way out, and new players are potentially coming in is a huge mistake.

He should command at least 4.5M I would think, depending on the term.

I like Luongo, he's really grown on me with his humour, and I think he's handled this whole situation with class. If he ever leaves Vancouver, I wish him the best and hope he wins a cup elsewhere. I will be cheering for him.
HOwever, my hate for the Canucks is extreme and I think it's kind of ######y what Gillis is doing. I think he's being greedy (yes, I know, looking out for his team), but still. Luongo gave great service to the team, just trade him for whatever you can get right now. Why make him go through all this? Just make the trade and move on. It's best for everyone involved.
Gillis better hope that Luongo doesn't get injured while playing. That would only make the situation worse.

If I'm Luongo, I try and screw over the nucks. Don't accept a trade and make them buy you out then sign with the team they were going to trade you to out of spite.
I really hope this screws the nucks over for a few years
