Pat Forde@YahooFordeI've been told by two people that ESPN's Jeremy Schaap will conduct the Manti Te'o interview. Jeremy is an excellent reporter

So at best, he's a complete moron and a little bit of a liar, and at worst he's complete ######bag and a con artist. He's going to get eaten alive in the NFL.

It will be a hard sell coming out as a bit of a liar, and asking everyone to believe him about the rest.

Lots of talk on Dino Costa about this last night. One caller felt that Te'o fabricated this story out of fear of being excommunicated from the Mormon church for his sexual orientation.

I don't really buy the cover-up cause he's gay. There are much easier ways to cover that up. I can buy the publicity angle, but it still seems stupid.

A Notre Dame student says it was pretty well known that Mante was with other girls during the time of this "relationship" and he didn't know Kekua all that well, but played their relationship up to be more than what it really was after their death to get publicity.
Uh oh!

The thing that gets me is the timing of the announcement that his "girlfriend" died.
If this really is a hoax that Te'o has no idea about, and one or more people are behind this thinking "ok, this has gone to far- the best way to get out of this is to kill her off" Are they really going to announce her death on the same day his grandmother died?
On the other hand, if Te'o was in on it, I would think that would be a perfect time to announce her death- Just pile it on to gain the sympathy / whatever the heck he was trying to gain.

so he's not gay.
/which is too bad, that would have justified this entire story in a way.

Not really, but it definitely would have overshadowed it. A story on the first openly gay (soon-to-be) professional athlete would definitely move the fake dead girlfriend to the back page.

I think anyone who has followed this young man, or really, can use their brain to think logically, would understand that it's much more likely that he was duped and not that he was the center of some ridiculous conspiracy to generate publicity for himself.
I know when I try to cover up a secret, I make sure that I take my cover up and make a huge national story that can be easily fact checked. That's always the best way to make sure no one ever finds out.
More facts and details will come out and maybe it will say he was in on it or he wasn't. Until otherwise, I'll still support him.

You sound exactly like Falcons fans did when Vick first got arrested. And how Steelers fans, Lakers fans, etc. sounded when their star players were being accused of rape. It's pretty sad when people will overlook all of these various indiscretions because of some weird, misguided sense of loyalty.
Do you know Manti? Have you ever personally associated with him, or anyone from ND for that matter? On what level do you feel like you "owe" him your support or loyalty, instead of standing back and looking at this logically?
You keep looking for motivation, but sometimes the attention can be motivation itself. He could very well have a personality disorder.

Münchausen by proxy
Main article: Münchausen syndrome by proxy
The word 'proxy' means 'substitute'. It is coded in the DSM-IV under Factitious Disorder NOS (not otherwise specified). Münchausen by proxy is the involuntary use of another individual to play the patient role. For example, false symptoms are produced in children by the caregivers or parents (almost always mothers), to produce the appearance of illness, or they may give misleading medical histories about their children. The parent may falsify the child's medical history or tamper with laboratory tests to make the child appear sick. Occasionally, in Münchausen by proxy, the caregiver actually injures the child to ensure that the child is treated. Such parents enjoy the attention that they receive from having a sick child
However, there is discussion to reclassify them as somatoform disorder in the DSM-5 as it is unclear whether or not people are conscious of drawing attention to themselves

I wonder what this will be about:
L K @LennayKay
I will be releasing a statement, via twitter, between 11am and noon today.
Is this even the real fake person??

What seems to be coming out now seems a lot more plausible
He didn't really know "her", she "died" and then he exaggerated the story of how close they were.

Word is Te'o and reps planned on releasing this Monday but Deadspin beat them to the punch. ESPN also reportedly had this story 10 days ago, but obviously it would be a huge risk for them to potentially cast a bad light on a player about to play in the most anticipated NCAA championship in recent history (airing on...you guessed it, ESPN).

Tweet from the fake GF's account..
L K @LennayKay
My statement: This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but I have been told by Alabama's offense that Manti Te'o is not real.
Nevermind.
Te'o probably just getting trolled by someone else.
