The only way that makes any sense is if Reagan Mauia is the guy behind the whole shenanigans.

Its possible the woman is a con artist and actually did meet Te'o on the occasions mentioned. He hasn't actually said he never physically met her, has he?

And somehow managed to not look anything like her picture? The story doesn't add up at all. Again, if they knew about this on December 26th, why did they keep the charade going all the way through to the National Championship?
If he really wants to be open about this, show us where the money people donated went.

Jack Swarbrick said Te'o told him that it was strictly online and phone conversations. The two never met.
However, Brian Te'o (father) was quoted in a newspaper saying they did meet in Hawaii one time. That's where I want to hear what Te'o has to say about that when he speaks.

According to the AD he has said that.

Nope no denial. Simply standing by and supporting a student athlete I've watched and cheered for his whole career.
I think anyone who has followed this young man, or really, can use their brain to think logically, would understand that it's much more likely that he was duped and not that he was the center of some ridiculous conspiracy to generate publicity for himself.
I know when I try to cover up a secret, I make sure that I take my cover up and make a huge national story that can be easily fact checked. That's always the best way to make sure no one ever finds out.
More facts and details will come out and maybe it will say he was in on it or he wasn't. Until otherwise, I'll still support him.

So, having a chat here, and the roomie knows many Polynesian, who also happen to be Mormons. Here's what he says:
They are the nicest people ever, who trust and love everyone, open their doors and hearts to strangers, and will be your friend, unless you give them a reason not to. Sure this is painting with broad strokes, but still
To him, this is totally plausible that Manti is naive and trusting.

No, it's not. It is not possible that in this day and age two University students have a 2+ year relationship and never skype or meet.

Very sad story indeed.
Manti was very overrated in the first place and was possibly seeking sympathy for Heisman votes.

Actually it totally is, even in 2013.
Alright, MRC's story time. One of my good friends dated a girl in Northern Ontario for a year online, who ended up being a random d-bag in Minnesota. They never met, but they Skyped and everything, until one day the guy got bored and came clean about being a chick.
My friend tried to off himself the next day, but family found him before he bled out and he luckily made a recovery.
2+ years is a long time, but anything can happen in this world. I have a gay buddy here in town who only sees his bf once every 18 months, because the guy lives in NOLA, and they didn't actually meet for the first 3 years.
It can totally happen. Did it in this case? We have to consider that it could have.

Really? Online dating is a billion dollar a year business where countless people strictly have online relationships. You really think nobody gets duped. That movie Catfish is based on a situation exactly like the one here with Manti.

Yeah cause this whole plan of his gf dying allowed the team to finish 12-0, him being the only player in CFB history to record 100+ tackles and 7+ int in a season and on top of that, have all the sympathy votes to win 8 postseason awards ( the most of any player ever) and finish 2nd in the Heisman.
Give your head a shake. Manti has said all season he didn't give a damn about awards and the Heisman. All he cared about was winning each week and winning a National Championship.
The guy's going to be a top 10 pick come April. Yeah what an overrated player.

Let's assume he got duped.
Why make up the story about meeting and exchanging numbers? Was he embarssed he had an online relationship?
Why would his dad lie about her coming to see him? What does he gain by lying about that happening? Was he maybe involved with it?
Why would he talk about her family supporting him through the deaths? Did he speak to more than just her on the phone over these three years? What did all these people have to gain?
I'm just shocked that he wouldn't even Skype with her or share photos through email or text messages. Do morons still only use ICQ for online communication?
But I guess either way he is a fool and the truth will come out. I'd love to be on the field to hear what NFLers will have to say about this on game day playing against him.

Yes, I understand what online dating is, but people who online date eventually meet, or at least see each other in video chat especially after that long.
He's either a liar, or the dumbest ####ing guy on the planet. If I'm an NFL team, I'm hoping it's liar, because someone that dumb would get eaten alive in the NFL.
As for Catfish, which seems to be the excuse to cling to. First, that was over months, not 2+ years, second there are pretty compelling questions about the authenticity of that movie.

Exactly. People saying that it's unbelievable a university student in today's day and age could fall in love with someone, having never met them and only interacted through the internet/phone are not very smart.
I mean the kid is Hawaiian in Indiana where there aren't too many Hawaiians and his surroundings are just a bit different then back home. He's also Mormon in a Catholic school where all he does is work his ass off everyday with school and football where he doesn't have time to date.
That's why a long distance relationship is pretty plausible in this case as it's easier to maintain a relationship. His star status also doesn't help interacting with people as it's easier to talk online or on the phone. I mean the list goes on and on.
Who knows the truth of all this but for anyone to think that a star football player can't have a strictly online relationship with a person is just wrong.

That's my guess. Maybe he didn't want people to know he was strictly having an online relationship with someone. Maybe he told his Dad that he did meet her in Hawaii but really didn't because he didn't want his parents to know he was online dating. Hence the quote by his father in the newspaper saying the two did meet.
Look the truth will come out, I'm just trying to give Manti the benefit of the doubt here. Obviously I'm a fan of ND and of his and hope this comes out as he really was duped. Regardless, this is very embarrassing for him in a time when he's preparing for the draft.

I guess if he could show phone records that he really had all these 8 hour phone calls, it would go a long ways to making the story believable.
