Who knew the strangest sports story of the year would happen in January?
The story is so strange I still haven't wrapped my head around it, especially some of the things the father has apparently said about them meeting in person. Can hardly wait for the actual truth to come out. When that will be is anyone's guess.

Manti is supposed to have a press conference tomorrow. That's what AD Jack Swarbrick said in his presser tonight. Hopefully we will know more about it from him.

Hrm, that's a really good point. If he used a cell phone he could just pull his bill and bam!
He'd have to be pretty diabolical to have a dead air 8 hour call just in case he got caught.

How come nobody that published an article about her how her death affected Manti did a quick check to see who the hell she was, just so they could add some background info?

I know he will speak tomorrow, but I am interested to hear when the actual truth will come out. I really doubt that will happen tomorrow.

My guess is that it was a hoax. Te'o certainly embellished and played it up (out of embarrassment?) but I think originally he was duped.
Or he was in it from the beginning. I really have no clue.
I do think this will seriously impact his Draft stock.

Because to the media, who she was was unimportant, it all about him.

Who knows how this would affect his draft position. Like I said before if this falls either way, do you prefer your Linebacker to be a devious liar, or a gullible sucker.
I saw those tweets that Iceman posted and was going to post them here, but those seem to indicate he didn't know. But then there are things that indicate he did. If he legitimately didn't then oh boy ... I just don't even know what to say. That's not a bright boy.

Well I still prefer him over DE we don't need, but as a Lions fan I certainly now am hoping that we would take Milliner and not him where before this I thought it was a toss up.
But as the Lions always do i assume they will use their top 5 pick on a DE that can be a back-up on the already stacked D-Line and not even address the huge hole the team has at LB and DB.

You're probably not going to get a chance at Milliner since Philly is picking before you and seem likely to part ways with Asomugha.

And Lenny Kay tweets again! So to try to apply Occum's Razor to all of this, I have no idea what the simplest would be!

So feel free to add, but these are the floating theories I've seen about all of this
1) Manti made this all up for publicity/sympathy
2) Manti got duped, but once he found out played up the lie rather than admitting it, assuming he wouldn't get caught
3) Manti legitamately got conned as he and ND are saying
4) Manti is covering up he's gay by using this
5) The Tuiasosopo family used Manti to further themselves, but Manti was complicit
At this point I'm leaning towards either 2 or 4, but obviously we'll need a lot more time before the real answer comes out.

I mean Maury and Jerry Springer can't believe any of this is real. Certainly ranks in the top 2 or 3 most bizarre sports related stories of my lifetime.

I think a lot of people who followed this young man really want to believe he was duped.
Anyone who uses their brain to think logically knows better.
Someone else made the comparison to Lance Armstrong, and it was apt. There were literally millions of people who refused to believe Armstrong is a doper, right up until he admitted it himself.
Te'o conned you, IceMan. The choice you have now is to accept reality, or run from it.

I mean the kid is Hawaiian in Indiana where there aren't too many Hawaiians and his surroundings are just a bit different then back home. He's also Mormon in a Catholic school where all he does is work his ass off everyday with school and football where he doesn't have time to date.
That's why a long distance relationship is pretty plausible in this case as it's easier to maintain a relationship. His star status also doesn't help interacting with people as it's easier to talk online or on the phone. I mean the list goes on and on.
Who knows the truth of all this but for anyone to think that a star football player can't have a strictly online relationship with a person is just wrong.

What about when Notre Dame went to Stanford and played in 2011, when they had been "dating" for two years? You don't think he would have tried to meet her then? Or gone to see her after her car accident or diagnosis? When she died, he said he sent roses to her funeral....where did they go?

This guy was either:
A: In on the hoax
B: The biggest ##### I have ever heard of. Guy has a "girlfriend" for two years and only knows her by pictures? Fly her over to see some of your games and bone her like a real man.
My guess is A

Ya, despite the fairy tail love stories society want to believe, no dying woman is going to tell her boyfriend "don't come to my funeral... go honor me with the way you play"?!?! What an idiotic statement- foolish of us not to recognize it earlier. Every girlfriend I have had would have said "what?!?! You care more about your foolsball than me???"
