Default Shaw Cisco Modem/Router folks..

Can you set up the Cisco box into bridge mode so it operates as a modem only?

I have an SMC and I can (I get a true Shaw IP on my own router and there's no NAT going on), my friend is trying to do the same since he's got a VOIP box and he had to port forward on the Cisco even though he called in and they supposedly set it into bridge mode.

Just checking to see if anyone else with a new Cisco router/modem has had it set into bridge mode.

Cheers.

You could also hop on the online chat, that's how I did mine. Usually not much of a wait. Obv if somthing goes wrong during the changeover and you loose internet access you will have to call in.

Lol that was the funny thing when he called about it the first time (when his Internet seemed slow). He had his VOIP router out in front or something so all Internet access was going through it and it's old so it was actually slowing everything down.

He called and then of course when they went to do something it dropped the call that was going through his VOIP setup.

I picked up my new Cisco router at the Shaw location on Macleod a few weeks ago when I upgraded my internet and asked that it be put in bridge mode while I was there. The guy did it on the spot and I have had no issues with it.

I had enough of my wireless connection dropping from time to time using the Shaw Cisco modem. Anyways, i ended up phoning them and asked them to put the Cisco modem into bridge mode and use my DLink DIR-655 wireless router as my WiFi. It took Shaw to do it in less than a minute. Problem is, i can't seem to get my DLink to work properly....maybe something to do with the setup. I can see the Internet symbol flickering but i cannot connect through wireless connection. I remember reading something about connecting a third party wireless router to Cisco modem but can't seem to find it now. Does anyone have any success using DLink wireless router with Cisco modem (bridge-mode)? Is there anything i need to change on my DLink router such as changing the IP or whatever.

Thanks.

I was having issues with my Shaw Wifi this weekend so I added a new wifi booster to it. Basically all I did was go to the ip address on the shaw cisco modem (there should be a sticker on the modem with this info, just a http:// then some numbers. This sticker will also have a username and a password. Password should be the same as your wifi password). Once there I just turned off the wifi (just a check box to enable or disable). then the I plugged in the new Dlink router/wifi booster and all was right in the world.

Not sure this will work for you as I have not idea what Shaw did on there end, but did the trick for me.

First thing to check is that your DLink is getting a WAN IP address from Shaw. If memory serves, it will be a 192.x.x.x address, but your DNS IP will be a 70.x.x.x. Next thing to check is that your DLink is setup for DHCP and handing out addresses. Check this on your computer.

Honestly, 9 times out of 10 a hard boot on both devices (Shaw router first) usually fixes everything.

Bump...just curious if anyone has gotten these modem/router combos recently and noticed any difference from these previous posts? From my experience, it still sucks. We just got one and it's a notable decline in wireless strength and speed from our ancient Linksys WRT54G, and supposedly the Cisco box is Wireless N! I can't even watch a full episode on Netflix on the PS3 through wireless without hitches. Anything wired is excellent though.

I didn't see anything in the router settings page to help fix this problem, except maybe trying to change the wireless channel, so am I going to have to call Shaw to put the router into bridge mode so I can use my old wireless router?
