The Mayan calender is nothing more than a calender that tracks our movements thru the sky on a massive scale. It marks the completion of one orbit around our Central Sun of Alcyone.

Earth rotates around the Sun.
The Sun rotates around a Central Sun, Alcyone. (approx. 25,627 years)
Alcyone rotates around the Greater Central Sun Sirius.
Sirius rotates around the galaxy. (approx 225 million years)

at least that is what this guy is saying...
