Default An apocalypse is unlikely, but just in case...

I'm thinking of buying a crossbow in case there is an apocalypse. I'd get a gun, but I don't want the hassle of having to take the course and stuff. I figure a crossbow is a good second best.

Do you need a permit to own one? Would the string wear out just sitting around in my attic waiting for an apocalypse?

Anybody else have any apocalypse plans? What about emergency kits - I think I should probably put something together. I don't have fresh water, food or anything.

Good choice. Have you seen Revolution? People fly back 30 feet from getting a crossbow arrow to the chest!

Nothing wrong with protecting your family in times of crisis. Expecting the apocalypse however, is completely different. I will say that the preppers in the NY/NJ area were looking pretty dam smart when hurricane Sandy made landfall.

I've already picked out the houses I'm going to loot.

And if I survive the end of the world in two days, its clear that civil authority and law enforcement will cease to exist. Can anyone say thrill killing multi province murder spree

FYI everyone, I'm having knee surgery on monday. Just letting you know because as a matter of cosmic irony I expect the zombie apocalypse to start immediately after I've been put in a position where I can't outrun those undead buggers.

Spoiler!

Yeah I know someone who was a huge gold bug, didn't even trust a company to hold the gold for him.

I told him I thought being able to keep the gold was probably a lot more important than having it in the first place in the event of societal collapse (which was what he was planning for).

Quote:
A5. Crossbows that can be aimed and fired with one hand and crossbows with an overall length of 500 mm or less are prohibited. You cannot lawfully possess or acquire a prohibited crossbow.

You do not need a valid licence or registration certificate to possess any other type of bow, including a crossbow that is longer than 500 mm and that requires the use of both hands. Criminal Code provisions making it an offence to acquire a crossbow without a valid licence were never brought into force.

If you plan to use a bow to hunt, please check provincial hunting regulations for information on hunting licence requirements and restrictions that may apply to the use of bows. For example, some provinces do not allow crossbows for hunting.

Take the 12ga, 308 and .22. All the others are just a burden.

Never bring a crossbow to a gunfight. The PAL course is at most 2 days, and pretty easy. Otherwise all you're going to do is make a nice target for anybody with a scope and a 30-06 so they can steal your crossbow and rations.

Apocolypse aside, this thread actually reminded me that I should buy a generator.
